The upcoming Skate and Surf Festival is relocating from the Plaza Green at iPlay America in Freehold to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson.
The dates of the music and tech fest will remain the same - Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19 - but the move is being made to accommodate “popular demand,” according to organizers.
“Since we announced the return of the festival, the response from fans has been overwhelming and as word began to spread about the lineup, demand grew,” said festival founder John D’Esposito in a statement. “It became clear, in order to accommodate our guests, we had to relocate.”
The number of tickets sold so far for the festival were not made available on Monday.
The newly reunited Fall Out Boy will headline May 18 and A Day To Remember is top bill on May 19. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Saves The Day, Bayside, Andrew W.K., RX Bandits, Timeflies, Lights, Miss May I, Mice & Men, Breathe Carolina, Glassjaw, Hopsin, Transit, Into It. Over It., Hostage Calm, Issues, Tyler Carter, This Good Robot, Streetlight Manifesto and many more are scheduled to play over the two days.
Part of the demand stems form the inclusion of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in the festival lineup on Sunday, organizers said. The Seattle-based hip-hop duo have racked up two monster hits in recent months, “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us.”
“We are very fortunate that Six Flags Great Adventure is able to accommodate us and they are enthusiastic about the festival,” D’Esposito said. “Having worked with them as a co-promoter for the last 10 years on other events, I believe this change in location will produce the best experience possible for all and that is exactly what our goal is.”
The Skate & Surf Festival is a precursor of the Bamboozle festival. The Skate and Surf, which debuted in Asbury Park in 2002, is being resurrected after a hiatus of several years. The festival is sponsored by the new GameChanger World rock ’n’ roll artist-to-fan gaming platform.
Tickets purchased for the festival at the will be honored at the new location. Skate and Surf Festival attendees will also have access to the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park for the day they’ve purchased a ticket.
Single-day Skate and Surf tickets are $59.99 and weekend passes are $99.99. Visit www.SkateAndSurfFest.com for tickets and more information.
