How I Spent My Summer Vacation: Bebe Rexha
It was barely a year ago that Pete Wentz announced his new musical project Black Cards. Bebe Rexha sprang into the spotlight, wowing everyone with her incredible vocals. Since then she’s traveled all over and turned into one the most entertaining front woman out there. For the second installment of our guest blog series, Bebe told us all about her wild and crazy summer!
A couple of summers ago, it was just me and my Rode microphone roasting in my 10×10 bedroom in the New York City heat. This summer kicked that summer’s ass, thanks to Black Cards, air conditioning and our amazing enzymes. We trashed the BMI stage at Lollapalooza in Chicago, rocked out at Hard Rock Calling in London and swayed with Shaggy during our song “Summer Nights” at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park.
One of the highlights was performing in Central park with Neon Trees and Panic At The Disco! The crowd was so alive and it felt amazing playing in my favorite city, with two of my favorite people (Spencer and Pete). It was so surreal when Shaggy came on stage and performed a song with us. I was a bit star-struck, but I don’t think anyone noticed (I hope not)…One thing I’ll always remember about that night, is seeing the kids in the crowd singing along to our songs and letting themselves go and just having a good time. I had a blast performing at Central Park and that show will forever be embedded in my heart.
Another highlight of the summer was playing Lollapalooza in Chicago. I’ve always heard about Lollapalooza and knew that some of my favorite artists had started their careers there. It was SO exciting to be able to perform on the BMI stage and I felt like one of my dreams had came true. That show was a so much fun and really hot (literally)! We went threw a case of water and tons of towels during our set. It was so hot that our clothes were soaked in sweat when we got off stage and the reason for that was not only the hot weather but the excitement from performing and the energy from the crowd. It was controlled chaos! Pete stage dived 5 times, our dancers were running around like fire crackers in werewolf masks, Spencer was playing the drums like he was a helicopter and I wasn’t in one place for more than 5 seconds. I feel so blessed that I had the chance to play at Lolla and I wish that all artists could have the chance to experience that.
Aside from performing, I was also writing/recording a whole lot this summer. My bum was either on a plane flying to our next show, or heading to L.A./ New York to the studio. I was basically living in the recording booth, I even spent my birthday in L.A. writing. All that work was worth it though, because now we have new music to share with the our fans and the world! Can’t wait for everyone to hear our new songs.
Overall, what made this summer so memorable was the talented and interesting people I was able to work with and meet, all the new places I’ve visited and and our amazing fans. If you came up to me a couple of summers ago and told me all of of the things I’d be doing, never ever in a million years would I believe you. So never let go of your dreams, you never how close you are to them.
