The busiest of semesters, as they always are
So my blogging has been absolutely non existent for the past few months, as many of you might have noticed. As I foreshadowed in some earlier blogs, this shaped out to be a very crazy semester. Between 21 hours of school (including 3 10+ page research papers and a few smaller papers), my conducting and performance gigs, and being a rehearsal assistant for the ASU Marching Band, I really haven't had time to do anything toher than play catch up. In fact, it's safe to say I'm still playing catch-up, and I'm just taking a break. I felt the need to post an entry to prevent an endless-cycle-of-never-blogging's victory. So here are some highlights from recent times, starting with today, working back.
Today the Marching Band has a recording session in which they will record two of my arrangements - perhaps these recordings can end up in my portfolio?
Super Mario Galaxy came out today. w00t. I actually bought it for my brother (who absolutely adored Super Mario 64), so I can't wait until he plays it so I can watch. I got a call last night from Gamestop reminding me SMG came out...

My english class isn't meeting today (hence the time for a blog) - we are in conferences this week for out 12-15 page research paper.
Other random events? we went to Corpus Christi and Kingsville Saturday/Sunday for the A&M Kingsville game, which was a complete bust. Glenn and I took our own vehicle (I had a gig on Sunday I had to be back for), and stayed in our hotel to avoid any awkwardness that might have been caused with 4 guys to a room, 2 of which are a gay couple. The hotel was a last minute decision - my aunt's very, very, sick, and just found out some really bad news, and wanted the weekend without company to digest it. If you've met my aunt, please keep her in your thoughts. Anyway, so the last minute hotel we lined up was the La Quinta.
We get there, get our room, and because there's "overflow", they put us in smoking. Not a terrible deal, we can both manage. So we get to the first room, and the King size bed is very nice. It was 3:00, and we had two hours to shower and get food before meeting the band at their hotel. Well, as we got ready to shower, we noticed there were no towels. After further inspection, it became blatantly obvious the bathroom had not been cleaned. While the sheets were changed, an open bar of soap (with tiny hairs on it), a messy toilet, and trash in the can, were all present. Needless to say, I went to complain, and she tried to call housekeeping, and finally moved us to another room. Well, when we get into THAT room, the smell of marijuana overpowered the room. It wasn't a terribly big deal, at least for a minute. But I decided to go back and talk to the hotel attendant again, and after some thought, we were moved again. By the time we got into a room that was manageable (this one had an odd smell, but we gave up), it was already 3:45. We had planned on going across town to Fuddruckers, but because of the hotel time delay, we would have to settle for nearby fast food. So after we showered, it was about 4:10, and we had to gas up, get food, and be at their hotel by 4:40. Not much time, so we ate at the first fast food joint we came across - Wendy's. The food was absolute garbage. I usually like Wendy's fast food. But this was intolerable. There was not a single thing positive about that experience - even the Dr. Peppers were lacking in syrup. Unfortunately, we were gassing up before we began eating our food, and we didn't have time to go back and complain. So we ate the food since we would not have a chance for about 6-7 hours to eat again, and moved on. Well after gassing up, I get a call from the ASU Bands - there was a change of plans, and instead of meeting them at the hotel, I was asked to just meet in Kingsville some hour and a half later. Conveniently, the Fudruckers we were going to go to was on the way to Kingsville, and in hindsight vision, we did in fact have time to eat there. Nevertheless, it did not happen because we had eaten garbage food, all because of a crappy hotel experience. So, I realized that my hair was an absolute mess, so I spent about 20 minutes trying to find a store that sells a brush!!! You wouldn't believe how rare these are in Corpus....Seriously. There was a beauty salon that didn't have them, Bed BATH and Beyond didn't have them, Ross's had pet brushes for dogs, but not for humans. We finally stumbled across the small business killer Wal Mart, and I begrudgingly made the purchase from the business nazis. Anywho, we got to Kingsville, and that will require another blog. I have to go. I'll finish soon - hope all are well.
