two soft voices, blended in perfection

My Kings of Convenience gig recap!

I finally got to see my favourite Norwegians, Erlend Øye (aka The Whitest Boy Alive) and Eirik Boe! What a toe-tappingly good and finger-snappingly great show it was. Erlend was so gangly and funny and geeky, and Eirik was so handsome and smouldering. Heeee! It was my first concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall, and I have to say the acoustics are excellent. I was with Sam but she went to meet her friends after the show and I met abbles and we queued up together to get our CDs signed.

Highlights:
  • They played "Homesick" in the dark! Erlend talked about Norway and how they have three months without the sun. And then the lights slowly went out until the concert hall was almost engulfed in darkness. They started playing it all wrong (I bet it was on purpose), tried again, and it was fucking brilliant.
  • The crowd whistling the viola line in "Stay Out of Trouble" and humming to some other song (I forgot which).
  • Erlend and Eirik asked if anyone in the crowd was celebrating a birthday. (Statistically, out of 1,600 there should be four or five, they said). There was one dude named Rico (Erlend: "Freako!") and they sang the Norwegian birthday song to him and the audience clapped. How awesome! There were some Norwegian folks sitting in front singing along. After the song Erlend said he heard there were 2,000 Norwegians in Singapore and he was wondering if he'd be seeing 1,600 of them tonight, but he's glad there's just 10. Hee.
  • They played a new song.
  • They covered A-ha during the encore! They said they were playing a Norwegian song, not one they made, that they haven't played in a long time. It was "Manhattan Skyline", lol!
  • Some woman shouted "Eirik, you're the best!" and Erlend was all huffy and went "So, Eirik, you're the best eh?" and speaking to the audience, he kinda pouted and went "Any questions?" Awwwww. A few songs later, some dude shouted "Erlend, you're the best!" and he was like, *pumps fist into the air*
  • Erlend inviting people up to the stage to dance during "I'd Rather Dance With You" and six or seven girls rushed up and danced and they got hugs of of Erlend and Eirik.
  • Erlend walking to the edge of the stage and dancing during "Know-How", Erlend coming down from the stage, Erlend swivelling his hips. Basically, I love every inch of the pale geeky goodness that is Erlend Øye.
  • Erlend's too-short T-shirt

    Sheer simplicity.
