What is it with humans and having animals act like them? Pounce asked with a rather obvious note of disgust.

Beka was sitting on top of the bed, her diary open in her lap. Instead of going out for a run, she decided it'd be best to write up the past events.

"Doesn't everybody want to be a cat?" Emma asked, giving him a little half-smile. "I can think of worse things to be."

Nice flattery, Pounce remarked, sounding amused.

"We'd all get to boss someone around to feed us," Beka agreed.

"Boss around people, nap in sun patches, get fussed over, and no one is surprised if you act contrary," Emma laughed. "See, Pounce? We're on to your master plan."

It's harder work than you think, he assured her, his chin in the air.

"Tis, chasing all the lady cats," Beka chuckled.

"Has he found a lady cat friend?" Emma asked, perking up. "Or is he simply scoping out what's available? Do tell, I haven't heard this gossip."

You'll both keep out of my business, Pounce told them immediately.

Beka giggled. "I'd not know. He'd never brought one home with him."

"I can't keep out of anyone's business, darling. Meddling is part is of my DNA."

"Although I'm sure there's more than a few perfectly nice lady cats on the island," Emma informed Beka over Pounce's head. "If he has a friend, it's quite rude of him not to introduce us, don't you agree?"

And now you're assuming cats are like you again, Pounce sighed. You would both do well to watch the fake cats on television.

"Don't be cranky," Beka dropped a kiss on top of Pounce's head afore she climbed out of her bed and moved to Emma's side of the room.

"Yes, don't be cranky," Emma parroted, shaking her head at him. "You can't expect people to think like cats, after all."

That wouldn't be half as entertaining, Pounce agreed.

Beka sat down on the edge of Emma's bed and shook her head. "I'd not want to think like a cat."

"Cat food probably isn't very tasty, either," Emma agreed, scooting to make more room for them both to fit comfortably. "And fleas would be unfortunate."

I do not have fleas, Pounce did sound insulted now.

Beka scooted back, wrapping her arms around her knees as she regarded Emma.

"You don't have fleas, but common cats do," Emma retorted, pretending she didn't notice how Beka was watching her. "It's hardly my fault you're an uncommon cat."

She finally turned to her roommate. "Do I have something on my face, darling?"

"No," she frowned. "There's sommat amiss."

She did not mean the fog.

"Well, reports of strange creatures roaming about is usually amiss, unless it's freshman orientation," Emma pointed out.
