Hey hey hey everybody... or the few people who check the ol' el-jay.
How's life? God knows I haven't talked to almost all of you in ages. I guess that's what Katimavik does to you though; cuts you off from the world.
Right now I'm in the decently sized town of Alma, Québec. It's pretty interesting. I'm a little down at times because of all of the French (which I don't know)and the lack of friends but I'm surviving. I'd like to have one weekend to go home and see everyone and Halifax again but unfortunately Nova Scotia is a little too far. Even this Easter when we're getting a decent chunk of time off (almost four whole days!) it wouldn't be worth it to go home like most of my group is. Of course, seven of the ten people I'm living with live in either Québec or Ontario which is a little closer than good ol' Nouvelle Écosse. On the bright side my family has said they're coming up for the vacation so I won't be completely alone... or trapped in the house with Mike. Now, for those of you who don't know, Mike is my mortal enemy in the house. He doesn't know it because he isn't all there in the head, but living with him still feels like an all out battle. It wouldn't be so bad if I could ignore him like everyone else does in the house but he has latched himself onto me like a leech and he really does suck the life out of me. The only thing I like about Mike is the fact that he provides hours of entertainment with the strange things that come out of his mouth.
"Is Nova Scotia bigger than Ontario?"
"Is that Michelle girl a Smurf?" (Michelle is a girl in another group in our cluster with blue hair)
"Oh mon door" (Mike trying to speak French)
Oh yes, he is a laugh riot and I'm not quite sure what I'd laugh at without him around but I still think I would prefer to not have him here. He actually has one foot in the door on his way out as he has a final warning for Respect but I don't know if he'll ever actually take the next step. I guess I can only hope.
Anyways!
Right now I'm at my job and I don't really have any work to do. I work with a youth employment center and specifically a special theatre project. We're putting on a play about entrepreneurship for the local schools and it's pretty good. It has a genie in it. Hurrah! My job is "Promotions" so all day I sit at this computer and make different programme, poster and ticket designs and wait for my boss to come over and tell me what to change. She thinks I'm great because I'm now a master of Microsoft Publisher. Hopefully I'll get to do something different in the near future but I don't mind getting continuous access to a computer with no distractions. It's nice to be able to take a break every now and then and check my e-mail... or facebook. Whichever. Hah.
But I should probably get back to work as I do have a few things to finish. I'll try and post more often and it would be kind of cool to turn this into a Katima-blog but judging by my past habits with LJ I wouldn't bet on that.
Ok, I'm off.
Peace!
