--- The Consequence of Revenge ---

She is standing in the shadows of the dark man’s hide out; her heart beating quickly and her hands clenching into fists as she awaits to be acknowledged. Soon, soon she would have the means for her revenge (She would make him pay, would deal him the same pain he had dealt her. And maybe then Silk could rest peacefully.).

Finally he calls for her and she opens her hand readily when his accomplice hands her what looks like a normal Battle Chip.

„Chips that are strengthened by Dark Chips will become confined by the Dark Soul when they slot-in.“ The dark man reassures her. „With this you should be able to take your revenge.“

She smiles turning the Chip in her hand, before turning to leave and ready herself for her role.

'Soon, Silk, soon!' she thinks.

„However…“ Dr. Regal calls after her…

----

Everything goes as planned.

She lets Yuriko-san tie her up, lets herself be brought to some warehouse and waits for the Net Police to come (and come they would, she knows. He would come to - he has never overlook any clue regarding the Dark Chips. Anything for the mission. Right?)

She plays the damsel, the thankful victim, makes sure to stick close to him and his 'friend' (as if. He probably is just using poor Netto-kun; that would be just like heartless person such as him). He frowns, but lets her do as she likes and at the end of the day he brings her home. Strange, she wouldn’t have thought that it would be this easy to approach him.

But when their eyes meet she things she sees a strange flicker in his; recognition perhaps? (Except that it couldn’t be, they had never met before and had he cared about the nurse Navi and her operator he wouldn’t have deleted Silk in first place.)

When they arrive, she smiles and thanks him and bounces up the stairs - everything to preserve the image of the happy-go-lucky-girl she is posing as. In the night she lies on her bed, hugging her PET to her chest, missing Silk so terribly, terribly much and living through that night over and over again. (Blazing flames, a shadowed figure, the sudden flash of a sword and Silk’s impaled figure sliding down as her body started to delete itself…)

Then her hand reaches for the weapons she was given, clenching around them.

‚Soon’ she thinks, as silent tears of loneliness run down her cheeks. 'Soon!'

It was only a matter of patience.

----

As she had thought, her moment comes soon enough.

Then next time she visits the Science Laboratory; the boys are in the middle of a physical extermination. This is her chance.

And ruthlessly (just like he has been) she uses it. Now there is left is getting him to use it.

When the boys are finished, she asks them to go out with her and originally when Netto refuses, her stomach clenches - she had thought she would need the younger boy’s help to convince him to come with her. But surprisingly he agrees readily enough and what’s even more surprising: He actually shows her a good time.

Perhaps that is why she breaks down in the end, why she reveals her story in the end, why she tells him of Silk (Does he remember? Does he even know what he has done? She thinks not). And is absolutely shocked when he tells her that he knew. That he had recognised her. (But if her recognises her, if he cares enough to remember, then why…)

But before she can ask her question (why… why… whywhywhy why Silk?), they are locked in, and under threat to suffocate (and it’s all so much like that time, only that this time it wasn’t her Navi at risk… oh god just what is happening here?)

Helplessly she watches him fight, sees his face twist in slight despair (she tries to smile and feel happy, because this is what she wanted, right?). He tells her rest and let him handle and she nods, eyes never leaving his pouch as she waits for him to use that Chip.

He breaks down under the strain of not being able to breath and when she gasps his name, still in her role of terrified victim (or so she tells herself) he turns and smiles confident and tells her that he would save them for sure.

Then he tells her not to make the same mistake as Silk, but before she can ask what he means, the moment comes: he calls for that one Chip. She leans forward anticipatory (Surely, Dr. Regal was overstating him, the moment of revenge had come already!)…

… and nothing happens. His Navi receives the Chip as he usually would, just missing Needleman by a hair’s breath.

Moments later the door opens and Netto storms in, asking if they are okay (and she knows she isn’t. Why, why, so many why’s in her head.) and she screams, why has the plan failed (because this, too, is part of her role. Soon, Silk, soon!).

He calmly turns and explains why he wasn’t tricked, looking perhaps slightly disappointed in her (and she wonders why that look hurts so much; she hates him doesn’t she?) and Netto exclaims that things aren’t as she things they are, tells her of the Dark Aura (Lies, all lies isn’t it? But if it is, why are there regret and sorrow in Enzan’s eyes? Why is there pity?).

In the meantime Netto’s Navi arrives, but before he and Blues can assault their enemy, Needleman has plugged out. Enzan opens his mouth but before he can say anything the building shakes and she know stage two of the plane, of her revenge has begun (even if she is not entirely sure anymore if that still is what she wants).

The boys run out into the building; both of them know a Dimensional Area when they see one.

“However…”

Her hands clench again as she follows, thinking back to what Dr. Regal had told her.

“…we must not forget that we are dealing with Ijuuin Enzan.”

He had known that it would come to this. This is her moment.

“For you to have your revenge such a simple trap won’t do.”

This is her revenge.

She narrows her eyes, when she sees a substantiated Needleman, sees the boys get ready and then e turns and nods and she knows he tells her not to worry. And in this precise moment she questions all her actions. (Oh god what is she doing here? Why? And now she doubts that this would bring Silk any rest as well.)

“That’s why…”

She feels deep terror and fear when she sees him remove the Synchro Chips, watches him flip it in habit, reaches forward (she has to stop this madness) and curses herself when her legs falter; still weakened from the lack of oxygen.

“…you have to make sure that he receives this Dark Synchro Chip.”

“Synchro Chip…”

She reaches out, even though she knows she can’t reach him. “DON’T!”

“SLOT-IN!”

She holds her breath and watches, eyes wide as he disappears in light - just like Netto beside him. However, to her terror, unlike Netto she hears him scream - and not just him; his Navi is screaming too, creating a terrifying choir that speaks of endless pain - and she sees black bolts wandering across the light (oh god what was happening, what has she done?).

Netto, now in Rockman’s armor, appears beside her, asks her what is going on - his eyes mirror her fear, but unlike her he doesn’t know what is happening.

Finally the light releases him and for a moment she hopes that nothing has changed, that the chip hadn’t overcome him. But then she catches his eyes and her hope shatters.

“Enzan!” Netto calls, running to his friend not quite expecting anything to be wrong, but before he can say any more, Enzan has thrown him into the wall, with a simple move of his hand and surprisingly much force. Netto groans disorientated - he has no clue what has hit him - and she tries to run to his side, but finds herself frozen in fear, in questions.

Needleman laughs and asks him how it feels to be part of the Darkness, but Enzan only acknowledges him with a blow of his sword and forces him to plug out. The Dimensional Area disappears and so does Enzan’s armor and she hopes against hope that now the horror is over.

Again that hope is shattered when he smiles - it’s not a kind smile like before, it’s arrogant and sadistic. “Are you happy now?”

Anetta shakes her head, hardly noticing the tears of terror and shame that run down her cheeks. She has achieved her revenge. But she is hardly happy about it.

Because all she can do at that precise moment is ask herself, just what has she done?
