So, I just watched a trailer for the Transformers movie and it looks freakin sweet. I think its set to release in theaters 7/4, at least thats what the trailer said. SO far away! I dont expect it to necessarily have a great story, but it looks really cool and I know i'll get a kick of seeing the robots in disguise transform with the new CG ( Read more... )

COUNTER!!!!
I was watching GI Joe the other day...and while I'm sure many little kids loved it as a kid, You watch it now and it is simply retarded. The plots are as thin as an Olsen Twin, the drawing is garbage, and most of the dialog creates characters that have no depth and could easily be replaced by machines (just not of the transforming kind).
Moral of story, use limiters, don't make a sweeping generalization that "Cartoons were so much better back then.", rather say "For the most part, cartoons were so much better back then."

COUNTER-COUNTER!!!!
I still argue my point that on a whole, cartoons of the past were better than they are today. I'm obviously making a generalization with my statement in that the statement itself is a generalization, and in that, it is to be assumed that there will be outliers, exceptions to the rule. If we're having an intelligent discussion here than it should be obvious that every single television cartoon won't fall under the umbrella as being of higher quality than that of today. A battle of semantics is a weak one my friend and if you want to punch holes in my arguement, I would hope that you would come at me with more substance than that.

If your statement that generalizations by default assumes that there are exceptions, then why is everyone getting mad at Oprah for her generalization that "Inner city kids don't care about getting an education"?
I mean "for the most part" her statement is true, yet due to lack of qualifier shes on the verge of a lawsuit....haven't you taken English 104?

Why? For the same reason that you started this debate with me to begin with: You don't agree with my opinion. It is unrealistic and just plain foolish to assume that any generalized statement is inclusive of every instance of the event or situation in question, as I have said, and as you have agreed. But Oprah's situation differs in that she is offering a bold, politically incorrect opinion on a very touchy subject, apt to come under fire from all sides.. except the white supremicists, but thats neither here nor there.

Any time that you introduce politics and the media you have a flurry of ulterior motives in the mix effecting reason as well as cause and effect; hardly appropriate for comparision here.

Furthermore, Oprah is an insanely rich, black celebrity. The media will jump at the chance to tear her down over anything she says.

And no, I placed out of 100-Level English. rawr

Anyway, lets just agree to disagree? This might get ugly, cuz I'm not one to back down from a debate, and I suspect that neither are you.

Dude, you associate with douchebags.

In saying that, I know of a party that may or may not happen, depending on how uptight the bitches in charge are. Keep your schedule open for the last weekend of the month.
