"These Watchers have taken such a recent interest in science. I wonder how they would like it if they were Kronos' lab rats?" Du Pont had worked for Hsu long enough to know of some background of the Horseman. Seemed only fair that those who were so happy to use other humans for their scientific cruelties should endure the same in return. "Perhaps we will arrange that for the future, with every raid on every lab." Alex was eying Durand. One one hand, yes, the man had cooperated. On the other, he had been only too happy to sell out his friends. It was a complete violation of his personal codes. If he were captured, and tortured, he would give up nothing about Hsu. He could not imagine offering his friends up to save his neck.
"Let us dispatch him painfully...but quickly. He is not worth our time any longer, as we have greater prey to hunt. Plus, I think we all need rest before we go farther, particularly Hsu. I am concerned for our friend." Orestes heard that, and nodded once. Everyone in Hsu's organization had been on red alert, working around the clock, and now that the worst was over, and the adrenalin gone, everyone was feeling the need to re-charge.
"Get up." Alex turned, and drew a dagger from his boot. "You are judged guilty of treason to your own friends, and murder of innocents, all what I would call a hate crime. Now you face punishment. In my day, you would have been hung by the neck, untll you nearly passed out, then your arms and legs would have been tied, and you would have had them pulled in four different directions. After that? You would have been split open, your entrails burned in front of you. Finally, you would be decapitated. I think it is a pity we have no such facilities, though your guts can spill easily enough."
Swiftly, and brutally, he stabbed the man in the low abdomen, and sliced flesh upward, tearing open the man's belly. Durand let out a scream that was very loud and shrill, and he began to cry, falling to his knees.
"Get up, coward. Die like a man." Orestes pulled him up to his feet, as he blubbered pitifully. Alex turned to Snowman. This was not even fun, not when there was no fire in the victim. He was useless, in all regards.
Xiao chuckled at du Pont's idea. "I'm sure Kronos would be pleased to receive human subjects for once instead of relying on chimpanzees. I shall put the idea to Milord, but I am sure that the thought of Watchers helping advance the scientific research of an Immortal, no less a Horseman would be deemed fitting."
He also nodded his concern over Hsu. Despite how he had been during the previous interrogations and their plotting, he knew that Hsu was still feeling the affects of his illness, even if he tried not to show it. As for himself, he was still well fed after the raid on the cottage, but it was full daylight now, and he needed to rest until sundown.
He watched on dispassionately as Alex stabbed him, his arms folded across his chest in almost boredom as Durand screamed. Stepping forward, he held him as Orestes hauled the wretch to his feet. "I doubt that he knows how to die like a man. Finish him, Alex, he is not worth our time, and I don't even want his filthy blood to stain my fangs."
"Fuck this fool." Alex stepped behind Durand, and with one deep slash, cut open the man's throat, letting him gurgle and drown in blood as he fell to the floor. They had better things to do, bigger prey to hunt and a friend to all three that needed their solid support.
"These cowards are not warriors, not even men." Du Pont spit on the body, before cleaning his blade off on hair and flesh. "But he gave us a bit of information, and now we use it to get to the bigger fish." His one sided smirk was cold and cruel, just like his eyes.
"I should think you need to retire, Xiao. Orestes and I can watch out for Hsu, and the boy, until you rise. I will let you know if there is danger, but I think that we are in for a calm, before more storms. I am certain the Guild is running for cover, but they will crawl out, like roaches, for more."
Orestes nodded, crossing his arms. "We rest, and watch, then we hunt again. The boss will need to regain all of his strength...and then he will remind them of who he was, and who he is."
Alex laughed, nodding with him. "And who he always will be. They need reminding, now and then."
While it was true that Snowman was still well fed after the slaughter at the cabin, the sight of Durand's blood gushing from his throat should have aroused some bloodlust within him, but the disgust he felt for that useless piece of meat override even that instinct.
He nodded. He was well-protected here from the sun's rays but he could feel how high it now was in the sky, and the effect was still draining on him. Although he was sure the two humans, immortal though they were, would also be tired as he knew du Pont hadn't slept and doubted that Orestes had either. "I will rest, but I shall be awake at sundown again, and I will watch over Milord and the boy while you have the chance to rest." He agreed with them both. This would be the time when the Guild would be rushing to cover their tracks. "When we are all rested, Alex and I will find the vampires I spoke of and put our proposition to them and their furry friends. The sooner we can infiltrate the Guild labs the better."
He was already walking towards the door, Durand forgotten, when Alex laughed. He turned, his eyes yellow and a cruel smile showing his fangs. "They need reminding once and for all."
