This sounds like more fun than those online quizzes. Here's how it works, if you post a comment on here asking me to interview you, I will ask you five questions, which you will then answer honestly in a reply. If you want to continue the chain you can also post your answers in your own lj with the offer to interview your friends.
These are my responses to Abby's Q's:
1. Do you identify as a southerner? Why or why not?
That's a complicated question, and has been more so lately because Greeks often ask me where I'm from. I was born and raised in Charleston, SC and there is a part of me that is quite proud to be from the south. At the same time, I do NOT have an accent, and I am NOT a "good Southern girl" by any stretch of the imagination. I will reject that label as long as I live. As far as my values go, I'm mostly a northwesterner at heart. When I meet someone for the first time, I tend to tell them that I'm from Portland rather than Charleston, because it better reflects who I am (and Oregon is "north of California"--one of two states that Greeks know about). ...but I'd also be crazy not to acknowledge that growing up in the south has had a huge impact on who I am today as well. A long answer to a short question.
2. What was the scariest thing that happened to you while in Greece?
Nothing comes to mind. The scariest thing that's happened this semester was going to Cairo via a sketchy travel agent (who, if you haven't already heard the story, asked us to carry a letter to his friend in Cairo--what sort of letter can't be mailed?!), and arriving two days after a bombing in a tourist market. It was amazing experience, but sometimes frightening at the same time.
3. What are you the least self-confident about?
This is a really hard question.... I guess I'd have to say I'm least self-confident about my mind. I realize that sounds odd, but having dealt with both OCD and panic disorder in the past (both relatively mild), I have a hard time trusting that I'm correctly interpreting my experiences and feelings sometimes. I'm not always certain that things are the way they seem.
4. Are there any traits that would make you write someone off?
Dishonesty. I have no respect for people who can't be honest with me, and unfortunately have written people off for that in the past. I would much rather be told something that might hurt me rather than have someone try to protect me from that knowledge. I want to judge for myself.
Disrespect--my current roommate fiasco stems from the fact that Gruman has no respect for other human beings and doesn't even pretend to treat them that way. It disgusts me that a person can think he's so far above the rest of us.
5. What do you miss the most from your life in the States?
People. So many people. And Mexican food.
alright, now who'll let me ask questions?? I have nothing else to do this week, I swear.
