So I had this story with John flying a chopper into someone's backyard and Rodney complaining bitterly every inch of the way, until John bribed him with hot chocolate. But then Jessica wanted "John whumping

I'm a fan of Nick Cave, but Cash makes the song his. It isn't that surprising that I'd have it on, it's part of my 'reading SGA' playlist. I had a lot of Cash even before the fandom discovered him or the movie came out.
Oh, wow. Just wow. There's so many wonderful things in here, especially the way it fits with the song. John's faith in his team and his shit ton of issues and the hallucinated jumper and wow. So many little things, too, like the implication about John's will, and "Major," and Rodney's extended freak-out. This feels very real, and I'm a little bit jealous of Jessica for getting such a wonderful fic.
Thank you. Yes, wildernessguru's formerly with the forest service. He reads the reports, then checks out the hikers' gear. With very few exceptions (maybe one or two in the last ten years) they are ill-equipped and not following the basics of outdoor safety. "Experience" and actual knowledge are apparently two very different things.
Yeah. The creature was looking for excuses -- pulled from John's own mind -- to kill him. If John had just a little more self-loathing, just a little less confidence his team would come back for him, he would not have made it.
See, I didn't even read that it was his own confidence in himself or his team that got him out, but his stubborn need to show off. Either way, it works.
Oh, kick-ass twist. I loved John's motivations, and the explanations after the fact are just eerily believable. And oh, John's abandonment issues, you should have supporting role credit.

Ironically, I had Johnny Cash playing through the headphones as I read this: The Mercy Seat. Freakishly appropriate, too.

She hasn't read it yet, so I don't know if she likes it. If she doesn't I can always do the helicopter fic.
