I wish they had accepted help when it was first offered. Because the Chernobyl solution will work as a short term solution, but it's not a long term one.

Scientists are still trying to figure out what to do with Chernobyl, because the dome is not holding. It's being eaten through, and to replace it would cause even more complications.

12 years ago, when I worked at the lab working on this with Russian scientists, they were still trying to find better solutions and coming up blank.

I think it's an even scarier situation today, not helped by an agency too proud or stubborn or too financially concerned to worry about the consequences of their actions.

The Chernobyl solution is short-term, but that short-term is about 20-30 years. Better than what we've got now.

Oh, I agree, and signed the petition. But even though it will give us time, it's not the best solution. I just hope that someday soon we can find something that will be better and help everyone. Wishful thinking, I know.
