Happy New Year

First day at the new job. I gotta say, I'm loving it! Of course, it was total chaos and while everyone knew I was coming nobody seemed to know where I was supposed to go. So I hung out in court for a while and then started working up my files.

I spent a little while thinking about the year in review.

I moved to Bakersfield for a new job. I arrived with a scooter and a bedroom set. I moved into an apartment and started a new job all in one weekend. I wasn't looking for anything really just sort of trying to adjust to life in a new place. I also needed to adjust to finally being paid to practice law.

Within 2 months I had bought a car, gained a girlfriend, and moved into a house. Another 2 months and I purchased a house and my girlfriend became my S.O. Two months more and I've changed jobs, bought furniture, a lawnmower and settled into life as a homeowner. My S.O. is talking about registering as domestic partners. Plus she gave me a SuperBowl package as a Christmas present. OMFG! I must have been a saint in another life because the last half of 2006 has to be the most awesome six months of my life.

I guess it kind of balances out how the year started. One year ago today I buried my grandfather. He must be working hard up there for me. Out of all the things that have happened he would have been most proud about me buying a home. He strongly believed in owning land. He would also have been happy about me getting a job as a lawyer. I can see him smiling as he introduces me--his granddaughter, "THE LAWYER." I still miss him terribly but I think he's somewhere still taking care of his family.

We were all together for Christmas and then scattered again for New Year's Eve. My niece was with my mother and grandmother and I was with my S.O. My friend SilverFlame was in town but was ill and barely made it to midnight. This was the first New Year's Eve in 5 years that I didn't spend in Texas. Maybe the left coast is good for me.
