Invited up by my coworker, Natalie and I spent and absolutely lovely weekend in Flagstaff. Upon returning, I realized that I took only a handful of pictures and all of them are of Natalie making faces. So instead, here is one I took on an earlier visit, out my coworker's kitchen window. I am fascinated by the quaint little view of her side garden. I enjoy the feeling of... not desert. Or perhaps it's that I associate these sorts of things with the childhood magic of visiting my grandmother. Back East in "Noodleland" as they called it when I was little.
In Flagstaff, I was mesmerized by the actual existence of seasons and its small town charm. We managed to catch the end of fall's colors and blowing leaves. I think I squealed with delight the entire time. Sorry, Natalie. We did some biking, some shopping (I finally bought myself an apron!) (and two beanies for when it gets "cold" in Tucson) and plenty of eating. Chocolate cake and wine at the martini bar was perfect.
On the way home we took the scenic route through Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona. Of course on the way back into town, we passed several of my favorite exits: Bloody Basin Rd, Dead Man Wash, Horse Thief Basin, and Big Bug Creek. One of my other favorites (though, atop Mt. Lemmon) is Incinerator Ridge Road. One of these days I'll actually think to take a picture before I pass these signs so I can keep them for my amusement.
Halloween and it's costume parties approach! Three yards of cheap white fabric, a 99 cent dress from Ross' clearance rack and hours of messing around and I think I have the makings of a decent Alice in Wonderland costume! It's not finished yet, but I am rather pleased thus far considering I don't sew. Especially since I have no real clue what I'm doing and I'm trying to manage without a sewing machine. I figure I'm golden as long as my skirt doesn't fall off while I'm wearing it.
The egg I had for breakfast this morning had two yolks.
I want to make homemade ravioli. Whole wheat, of course.
