Willie Dixon - Live from Chicago 1/24/74

Willie Dixon is often considered the poet of the blues. That moniker is for very good reason. Having written so many classic blues songs that are now considered blues standards he has earned that name. Such songs as “I Ain’t Superstitious”, “I Can’t Quit You Baby”, “Little Red Rooster”,  “Hoochie Coochie Man”, & many others were all written by Willie. He was a pioneer and a huge part of what made the blues.

This is a live recording that I downloaded from a concert that Willie played in Chicago in 1974. He has a great band playing this show with him and for a show that is so old the sound is phenomenal. It’s a good compilation of the songs that he wrote is a great listen.

Zakk Wylde - Book of Shadows

Zakk Wylde is a guitarist most prominently known as the guitarist and songwriter for Ozzy Osbourne. He also fronts his own band Black Label Society. His work on this album is unlike any of the work that he has done for Ozzy or for the most part with BLS. This album is a great listen and is chock full of really great songwriting and phenomenal guitar work. A lot of the album is acoustic guitar based and shows a raw side to the songwriting process. I think that is what makes this album so good though. From start to finish it is one of my favorite albums to listen to. If you are a fan of Zakk you owe it yourself to check out his masterpiece.

This is actually the end of this little project that I started many months ago(I do have a  couple of ZZ Top albums, but they did not make it onto my iPod). I have bought a lot of new music since then and it will be good to listen to those new albums. I hope you all enjoyed my little music thing on my blog. One topic upcoming for my blog will be the NHL playoffs. Hopefully the Pens make a nice run like they did last year.
