Eh, that comma is okay. I do love semi-colons, though. Speaking of grammar battles, a co-worker with whom I have a very Hepburn/Tracy relationship and I duke it out over semi-colons all the time. He'll replace them in my stories if I don't use them in the only acceptable (to him) construction: I love semi-colons; however, Clayton likes to stifle my punctuation freedom.
That is so weird! Just the other day I was thinking about this (don't know why it came into my head, it just did!) and I was trying to explain to myself the difference. Very odd...(Great minds? Or not really, as I'm a culprit myself!)
How about this?someirishdudeJune 28 2005, 14:10:07 UTC
Is this correct usage?
"Everyone in my family helps to prepare for Thanksgiving. My brother Billy and I set the table while our mom cooks and our dad cleans the house for company. After cooking, my mom is tired and refuses to give it up. Dad gets frustrated.'

"Please slow down, my dad (or mom) works here."
Should it not be "Please slow down; My dad works here" ?
That irks me! (:

Clearly, Dad should call his mistress.
