haven't really updated much because a) i'm super busy and b) my life is boring. even more boring than usual since i've been going out less in an effort to save money for my trip to LA.
but i did want to write about the oso closo cd release show on friday night. i met geoff in shawnee at his school and we left for denton. after an interesting detour (down some old highway through sulfur, oklahoma instead of going into OKC and taking 35) it was a pretty uneventful drive down. we got to haileys and ran into mollie. in talking i found out that john had moved back to OKC with his new girlfriend. the fact that denton didn't work out and he's moved back didn't surprise me all that much. but finding out that he moved almost two months ago kind of stung. but, like my mom said, why would he tell me? i gave myself the half hour until oso started to be hurt and then resolved to put him away once and for all. i mingled with geoff and it was really great seeing all the boys and amy again. she showed me my oso pillow and i absolutely fell in love. i ran over to the boiler room with mollie to say hi to sid and then came back for the show.
i know i say this every time, but i absolutely cannot put into words how happy this band makes me when i see them live. just...pure joy. for the release show they had a full orchestra and shaun, the keyboard player from snarky puppy. sick. absolutely sick. they played pretty much, if not the, whole album plus "sheila" and "ruiner" from rest...and they played
their chipotle song!!! voting's closed, but you HAVE to watch their commercial. the jingle is genius.
so the show was mind-blowingly fantastic. geoff and i picked up our painted cigar boxes & cds, mingled for a bit longer and then headed out. we were going to stay with mollie, but i was wide awake and we both kind of wanted to sleep in our own beds. (there's just something notsofun about waking up and facing a long drive. i'd rather just get it out of the way.) so we ran through mcdonald's (jack's line was too long. damn.) where i was asked the question i honestly never thought someone would be stupid enough to ask. i ordered a "cheeseburger with cheese only" and the girl asked "so, you don't want meat?"
...
good lord. while waiting in line i was perusing the liner notes and saw that the boys thanked me. that on top of the show and the pillow and the cigar box and the show again pretty much made my night. so. happy.
i dropped geoff off in shawnee and since he goes to an uptight baptist college they wouldn't let me stay so i headed on home. it wasn't a bad drive except for the crazy fog at sunrise. i got home around 7am and slept until about 2pm.
