My hope is that from time to time you will let your minds be bold, and wear sombreros....

So here we are, at the end of our high school careers. It comes with a range of emotions, exhilaration and exhaustion among them. There is a phrase that we have each heard many times. The phrase “There’s a time and a place.” I have both a bully and a friend here. Today, it is to be a friend.

Over the next few weeks, we will be attending our graduation ceremonies - an event for each of us where the commencement speaker tells all of the students dressed in identical caps and gowns that "individuality' is the key to our success. For some reason, commencement speakers love to warn about the fraudulence of success. I am sure that some of you will hear "It's lonely at the top". It's not. It's much, much lonelier at the bottom. As Tom Brokaw once wrote "You are educated. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world." No matter how highschool went for you, remember that President Bush offers hope to the C students: you too can be president of the United States. And if you start to question your ability for greatness, remember the advice given by one of the greatest, Winston Churchill, in his famous graduation speech of just three powerful words. "Never give up".

So live it, live it hard, and live it in a way that allows you to find your purpose

Congratulations, good luck, and godspeed.

And if you have figured out who I am, look me up in New Haven. I'll be the one wearing the Eli shirt around Georgetown this summer.
