Restlessness and discontent are the first necessities of progress.

I have been giving the idea of a strike some more thought. I am convinced that with a carefully honed message faxed out the various Boston newspapers and radios, along with NPR, CBS, etc., you could get national news attention. It would be impossible for the administration to ignore you. Add in your parents, and you could control the Board of ( Read more... )

A concerned parent... anonymous March 23 2004, 11:06:50 UTC
I am the parent of two gradeschool kids. I want to help. A friend of mine told me about these postings. I think you would be surprised by how many parents in town know about and read this site, and would also be willing to help. Show us you care, and we will come out to support you in numbers. If things stay the same here, we will probably send our kids to a private highschool too when the time comes.

You can't possibly understand how happy I was to see this comment. I am so glad to hear that there are adults in the community who are concerned as well. I am thinking that it would be a good idea to spread the word--get all the adults, students, and other concerned people, and set a place and time to meet and talk about this, and perhaps begin working on a plan of action. As students, we can only get people thinking...but we cannot make the real difference of voting. I'm a senior, but not old enough to vote. It's sad to see that the majority of my peers who are old enough to vote aren't registered.... So while the students can definitely get people to pay attention to the state of our school system, it's pretty much up to the adults in the community to make the actual difference. If you're interested in getting people together, I'm sure there are many people who would be willing to come together to promote this cause.

I am also glad that parents care, but find out from your child not from a livejournal were the purpose is to basiclly vent and have a forum with their friends, not so they can post and have their parents read it.....

With much respect....

So guys, what can I do to help? Do you want more time to figure out if and what you want to do, or would you like a broader forum with parents to discuss this in person? Happy to help in any way that I can.

I think it would be a good idea to get a group of students and parents together to discuss this. We students need adults to help us get this motion started and organized, and you as parents need the students to help you understand our feelings on the matter, and to provide insight. If you are willing to post any days and times which you think might be good for this, feel free. I'm sure that the majority of students and parents interested could find a time that would fit into our schedules. Contact other parents who share your concerns. I think that this has real potential to get somewhere.
