If anyone reading this feels like it, I'd really appreciate a quick beta job on my wish fill for spn_rambleon.

Title: The Greatest Man I Never Knew
Genre: Gen
Characters: Dean and Adult!Ben are the main characters
Length: Completed draft stands at 5919
Short Summary: The wish I'm filling is, "An adult Ben finally catches up with Dean but not to yell at him but to say that he understands and that he and his mom are A-OK. Gen or het." I'm also using it to fill "group support" on my hc_bingo card.

This should be low-maintenance. If I'm any judge, it looks like three hours' work at most if we get into some heavy meta argument. More like an hour if nothing serious comes up and you read fast.

I'll pay you back, honest.

This is the end of the story. The reader may feel as if this is a cheap way to begin, but this isn't about the reader. Besides, a reader who thinks the worst that can happen is for the story to end has not been paying attention.

There were many places this story could have ended. A funeral pyre in South Dakota would have a nice choice, and the writer could have titled it something tasteless, like "Blaze of Glory". Dean would have hated that, not so much for the overwrought imagery but for using Bon Jovi in his last impression here on earth.

Another choice was having the boys drive the Impala off into the sunset. Not a bad choice at all, actually. Satisfying to the readers, and Dean has this whole not-so-secret inner cowboy fetish which makes it both believable and as close to a happy ending as most people can picture. Sam wouldn't have liked it much though, as he is much too practical to think the story really ends there, and in this case he's right.
