appendicitis

Dec 24, 2008 12:13

i started having pains on sunday after brunch, but they weren't anything special.
monday kind of hurt during the day, i did all my christmas shopping and came home monday night. ate some harvey's at around 8pm and went to bed,

but i couldn't sleep.
the pain was ridiculous. i thought it was just stomach cramps. i attempted to throw up around 6am but was unsuccessful. i fell back alseep and at 10am, went to my mom and asked her to take me to the doctor. but before i was even able to get in the car, i felt really dizzy and fell over. a few second later, i was puking up my guts.

let me remind you that the last time i threw up i was in grade six.

after i finished that nasty happenings, we went to the doctor and waited for about an hour where my pain got worse. this was the 23rd of december, and with the holidays, doctors and surgeons just weren't around. the doctor examined me and shook his head and told me it was more than likely my appendix.

he told me to go to the hospital and get a cat scan. so i did. and before a cat scan, they make you drink this huge glass of water and wait 45 minutes before they'll put you in it. i drank not even half of the water and threw up again. after they realized i threw it all up, they took me in after about half an hour. then i went back to wait for the results, about another hour, and the results were in: appendi-fucking-citis.

but because the falls are so awesome, they didn't have any surgeons. so they had to transfer me to welland, via ambulance. when i got to the welland hospital, i waited around for a good half an hour before they had a room for me. and then another hour and a half before a doctor saw me. by this point, the pain was so unbearable that i thought i was going to die. i was screaming so loud the nurse came and gave me morphine. but the morphine made me feel even worse with an intense headrush and felt like i was once again, going to throw up. after 5 minutes of all of this it finally settled down and i passed right out.

20 minutes of being passed out, the doctor comes in and asks me a bunch of stuff, taps on areas of my body and makes me scream, then tells me i'm first on the list to go in for surgery, but it might take up to 7 hours before i get in because everyone on staff was trapped in a snowstorm.

7 hours? there was no fucking way i was going to be able to last for 7 hours.

about an hour goes by of me remaining passed out with more morphine and no headrush, and the doctor comes to see me again and says we're good to go. with prep, getting me in, set up etc it was 6:30pm by the time i was out with the aenesthesia and the surgery began.

the next thing i remember was waking up and throwing up all over myself uncontrollably, after the surgery was over. i was moved to another room where i fell asleep and my parents left. this was about 9pm. they put me in a room with this other older lady who couldn't control her bowel movements and was up basically every hour using the bathroom and pooping all over herself. people came in to check on me about every hour also. i didn't have any painkillers because the pain i had wasn't severe enough, and there was no way i could handle another morphine headrush.

at 7am, i'm awake and they check on my incisions and around 8am they bring around breakfasts. the lady beside me got this huge eggs, bacon, toast, cereal and more breakfast and i was stuck with jello and juices. after 36 hours of not eating i was just given some jello and juice.

my parents came to pick me up at about 10:30 this morning and i was back home at 11am. i feel much better, but it's supposed to take up to 2-4 weeks for me to get back to normal. which means i'm supposed to take it easy for those weeks as well.

i wasn't sick ALL semester.. with anything. this was way too ricidulous.
