So I was very bored at "work" today because it was a lot of sitting around waiting...and waiting...and waiting. Endless waiting. I think we played for a total of about 30 minutes and I was there for almost 10 hours. Ugh. But on the bright side, it gave me time to dink around with hobby-like things. Since I've got Photoshop on the netbook and I had nothing better to do, I tried my hand at something I've been wanting to try for a while now: Creating color palettes from photographs. Ethan is an avid (and quite good, for a hobbyist) photographer, and his favorite subjects are birds (and other animals, too, but especially colorful birds), flowers, and landscapes featuring bodies of water, be it an ocean or a rain puddle or a scummy, stagnant pond. All of which means (usually) bright colors, so his pictures are fun to pull colors from. I've got a bunch of his bird photos on my netbook that I use for backgrounds, so I was using a few of them to experiment with today. I created a number of 5-color palettes today while we were sitting around waiting, and I'm itching to do more.
So then, of course, I got to thinking about what to do with these palettes. The easy answer is walls for Sims, but...I've done enough of those, thanks. *laugh* So for whatever reason bright, happy Sim living rooms popped into my brain, probably because it's winter. When it's winter, I like to put warm, bright, happy images into my brain. So when I got home to my machine that can run SimPE at a tolerable speed, I pulled out this palette...
...which happens to be pulled from a picture of a macaw, and then, to see what it would look like, I quickly threw 4 of the 5 colors on this conveniently-colorful basegame couch, which I've always liked but that I've never known quite what to do with:
And I thought it looked pretty nice for a quickie, but that was as far as I got because I'm sleepy and need to go to bed soon. But now I've got visions of a bunch of different coordinated pieces for living rooms in various palettes, maybe with some patterns here and there. Loveseats/sofas/chairs, lampshades, pillows, curtains, maybe some rugs, maybe some coordinated paint colors. Might be fun. Of course, it might also be disastrous since I'm really not much of an interior decorator, but...We'll see!

Red-Tailed Hawk
Lovebird
Hummingbird
Blue Jay
In other "news," I think I've decided to join all the cool kids on Tumblr, which I'll mostly use for following other people, but I'm thinking I might use it to share lots I build, when I feel like dealing with the whole arduous process of packaging them up and rounding up all the CC they need but that won't package. Like, you know, Maxis recolors. Like that couch up there. *laugh* So...yeah, shoot me now. I probably won't get to it until the weekend though. It's going to be a long, "busy" week of more sitting around waiting for me. :p
