Chapter 2

Everything seemed to be crumbling to the earth.

Ohno had once thought about this day. He had once thought about quitting. Most of the time, he thought about the probability of them continuing as four when one decided to leave. But, never once in all of his thought, had the idea of Nino quitting came to his mind.

He knew Nino. They were so damn close. There’s almost nothing that they could hide from each other. Except who they were dating. Now that he thought about it, he could clearly remember the time when the news of him living with a girl broke; Nino was so damn frustrated that day.

But with this thing happening, Ohno couldn’t help but wonder if there was something that Nino was hiding from him.

He had sent messages to the guy countless times. None of them was read. While part of him wanted to know the reason behind Nino’s decision, a part of him also wanted to know how was the man doing. What was happening? Was he alright? How difficult was the decision for him? Does Nino need his support right now? If that guy needed his support, he wanted to be there. But in the end, he got nothing in reply.

On the seventh day since the news broke, the four of them was called for an urgent meeting. The decision made in the meeting was expected; they’ll go hiatus for the remaining six months. All of their activities would focus on the members remaining in the group.

He watched, observed every single reaction made by the people in the meeting room when they finally concluded the meeting. He could see frustration on every members’ faces, while listening to the management staff, there was nothing they could say in return. Accepting. Somehow that sent shiver to his body.

This was real. And they had to accept it.

But when he looked at old Johnny’s face, there was this uncomfortable reaction the guy made. For a brief moment, they stared at each other, until the old man decided to move his sight away from him.

“Why aren’t you stopping him?” Ohno asked, once all of the staff left the meeting room. Only the members were remaining.”Why did you let him to leave? I thought you kept assuring me that we are your main cash cow that losing one member will hurt you greatly. Why?”

“Ohno-kun-“

“You know something right?” he continued, ignoring Sho’s warning tone as he said his name. “You’ve been avoiding my gaze the whole time!”

“Satoshi-kun!”

“We need the answer, Sho! I know you wanted to know it too! What I don’t understand is why is it so easy for you to let him go!” Ohno snapped, voicing out his frustration. Subconsciously, he was pointing his finger at the old boss.

It annoyed him how all sorts of questions were pestering him since the day Nino left. It annoyed him even more when he couldn’t get any answer to them. He couldn’t deny it too; how this mess up feeling he was having now was because he was feeling guilty knowing he might be a part of the reason behind Nino’s decision.

Something was happening around them and they didn’t even know what it was. And whatever that happened, was definitely the reason why Nino decided to leave. There’s no possible way the old boss approved Nino’s decision without hearing the guy out. And from the way Johnny-san was looking at them, he believed the guy knew something.

Why couldn’t he just spit it out?

The old man heaved a sigh.

“One thing I hope from the four of you now, is to accept and respect his decision,” the old man said, sounding so calm, which infuriated Ohno even more. He clenched his hand, his knuckles turning white as he tried to suppressed all of the anger inside him while he looked at the old man who stood up from his seat, heading towards the door.

“No one can hide the truth. One day you’ll know it. But on that day when you finally get to know the real reason, respect his decision-“
He made his way to the door, stopping before he pulled the handle.

“-and I’m sorry for not being able to stop him before everything happened,” the old man continued before he left the room.

There was no mistake that they heard how sorry the man sounded when he spoke. It was full of sympathy and the one thing that couldn’t be hidden; the man was feeling guilty for everything that had happened. That made Ohno’s suspicion towards the man grew even greater.

No one said a word afterward. Everyone was in their deep thoughts, wondering, figuring where will their future be heading. Arashi was the best thing that happened to them, despite all the hardship they faced. To them, losing a member was like a great big slap to their faces.

But Ohno had something in his mind. The more he thought about it, the more it was driving him mad. He eyed every member’s face. Nothing had changed from before. They were frustrated yet they never voiced it out.

“I want to know-“ he said, breaking the silence in the greenroom. His words managed to draw the others’ attention to him. Three pairs of eyes were looking at him now.

He hesitated at first, taking his time to voice out his thoughts. But looking at eveything that had happened, deciphering the puzzle with every piece of information he obtained, he couldn’t keep it to himself anymore. With one deep breathe, he spoke again.

“What if everything that happened has something to do with Johnny-san?” he blurted out.

“Oi Ohno!” Sho snapped, warning him with a look.

Sho’s reaction was expected. They shouldn’t be making wild assumption. But for god sake, it’s  bothering him deeply.

But looking at the other threes’ reactions, he knew, maybe he was wrong.

“Ok fine. Maybe not him,” he paused. “But what if, let’s say the management?”

“Ohno-kun, that’s a very dangerous accusation,” this time, Jun replied, stopping Sho from saying anything. “Can you imagine what will happen if people hear about this?”

Ohno clicked his tongue in annoyance. “It’s a possibilty. I’m not convinced either. Thank god if it’s not true. But what if it is?”

Silence.

“Then we’re in the deep shit. All of us.” Jun replied. From the corner of his eyes, he saw Aiba, looking restless with the new hypothesis. But Jun refused to make another one. Deep inside him, he wished, if Aiba did know something, he would talk to them, answering all questions that were running in their minds right now.

“I want to know,” Ohno said. He bit his lips. Like a cue, every single memories he had with Nino flooded in his mind, tugging his heart into sadness. A week had passed since the news broke. Few weeks had passed since the last time he saw that guy.

God, he missed Nino.

“I want to know,” he repeated. “Even if that means that I have to reveal every dark secret that will lead to it,”

“Even if it ruins us all?” Sho asked, slighly worried over the guy’s declaration.

Somehow, Ohno sighed. He knew he was being selfish. But for once, he needed to be selfish.

Slowly, he looked up to the three guys in the room, feeling guilty over what he was going to say next. He needed their support, but he didn’t deserved it.

“Yes,” he said, pausing before he continued. “I’m sorry.”

Only Jun nodded to his words.
