Nino didn’t knew what was in the man’s mind when he woke up this morning.

It was a bad wake up in his whole life. He felt slightly dizzy with a headache only to realize a hand wrapping along his waist. He froze when he felt Ohno’s breathe on his nape as the man took him closer into his embrace.

And when Ohno finally woke up from his sleep, Nino couldn’t hide how embarrassed he was by the fact that he was actually enjoying the man’s warmth against his.

“Ohayou,” Ohno greeted him, eyes slightly open as his nose snuggled on Nino’s nape.

“You’re disgusting, did you know that?” Nino replied, annoyance in his voice. “You’re married to my cousin and now here you are, snuggled closer to me as I was your mistress. Have you no shame?”  Nino nagged at the sleepy man.

Hearing this, slowly, Ohno shift away. He was completely awake by the painful remark as he moves away from the man.

For a moment, Nino didn’t make a move from the bed. He kept observing Ohno who was started to pack all of his stuff into his bag.

“Today is the last day-“ Ohno started again. “I have somewhere to take you,”

“No way-“Nino shook his head, trying to push away the idea from the man’s head. Seeing this, Ohno laughed.

“I swear it’s not the sea again. There’s just, this place I’ve been thinking since last night. Just this one time, I want to take you there,”

Nothing left Nino’s mouth as a reply. He raised his eyebrows, questioning Ohno by the gesture but Ohno didn’t make any more explanation afterwards. Hence, he just drop the topic off and decided to go with the flow.

***
It was breathtaking.

Nino didn’t really like to stay outside all the time. But wherever he was now, even though it was the peak of the day where the sun was on the top of his head, Nino could ignore the entire factor all together.

Wherever Ohno had taken him now, he loved it.

“Like it?” Ohno asked him as he walked approaching him from behind. Not even a hesitation when Nino replies it with a nod.

“Why here?” Nino asked. His eyes fixed on the scenery in front of him. Behind him, a smile curled on Ohno’s lips.

“i barely remember about you.” Ohno started. There’s a hint of regret as he speak. He could see the curious frown on Nino’s forehead as he was standing side by side with the man. His lips formed a thin line as he bit both of his lips together wondering if by telling everything now would make any difference for both of them later.

“I have to admit that whatever happened between us years ago was a mistake due to my own stupid judgement. I told myself that it will be fine even when one day everything stopped between us. But then, you were right. I just don’t know you enough,”

Nino mocked a smile.

“So-“

“You kept telling me that you don’t like staying outdoor. I do remember that. And because of that too, I do remember you explained to me about this kind of place,”

The mocking smile on Nino’s face earlier faded, replaced by a frown.

“Explaining you-“

“You told me that you love the idea of spending a time together with your love one, somewhere away from other people. Better if it is an isolated higher place with sea as your scenery.”

Ohno paused. Slowly, he turned facing Nino, holding him by his arms as he continued.

“This is the only place I could think now.”

Nino chuckled. Ohno did make some sense in his explanation. The only think that doesn’t light up the bulb was why? Why does the man need to take him here? What was everything behind the man’s idea?

“I realized I didn’t make anything better for you during this vacation.” Ohno explained, as if he understood what was revolving inside of Nino’s head. His hand finding Nino’s, entangling their fingers together. He sighed of relieved when he found no sign of protest from the man.

“Ohno-san,”

“Yes?”

“I’m sorry that I was being harsh to you these past days,”

“It’s understandable,” Ohno said, chuckled bitterly as he said a matter of fact next. “I don’t deserved your best treatment when I never gave you one before,”

Nino fell silence.

It would be a lie if he denied how happy he was for what Ohno had done for him now. It had been his dream since before, a dream that he had erased from his list when he decided to move on from his past. But, here they are, at a place where he had been dreaming to go with his love one, how couldn’t he be happy.

Except, Ohno wasn’t the one who he should love anymore. He decided it a year ago and he should made it clear to him.

Right?

“You love Miyuki so much, don’t you?” Ohno nodded. His eyes fixed on the scenery in front of him, enjoying the cool breeze and Nino’s warmth next to him as they sit side by side on the bench provided there.

“I love her. So much. Even when she died, I don’t think I can replace my love for her with anything else.”

Nino shrugged. There’s a pang of jealousy hit him hearing those words coming from Ohno’s mouth. But he knew where he stood. Between them, even if it succeed before, it will never be a right thing to do.

But then, Ohno’s next words were unexpected.

“She wanted me to love you, Nino.”

Nino’s eyes widen in surprised.

“You don’t say-“

“I will!” Ohno said, determined. “I will do it right this time. I will love you the way you deserved. I won’t waste you like I did-“

“Whoa, stop!” Nino almost shrieked, yanked away his hand from Ohno’s grip. Quickly, he stood from his place, putting some distance between them.

“Nino-“

“I’m not doing this because I want you to love me, Ohno-san.” Nino said, cutting Ohno from saying anymore words. “I did this because I pity her. She put all the blame on herself because of the thing didn’t work between us. It’s not her fault. We shouldn’t work at the first place,”

Ohno sighed.

“You don’t love me anymore?” one question. It was heartbreaking to Nino’s ears. But he had made a decision.

“I don’t.” Nino replied, his voice sounds tense as he spoke that it made Ohno tried to find a hint of lie in the statement. But no matter how hard he tried to seek for it, it was only confidence and determination he found in Nino’s words.

“The reason why I dare to do this is because I’ve decided to move on from my past. That included you. Remember the time I agreed to do all this? I told you, it’ll be over once it’s over. I’ll leave once she-“

“BUT I DON’T WANT YOU TO LEAVE!”

“Stop being a selfish jerk, Ohno-san! I don’t do this because i want you back in my life! I never want to because it was you who toss me around before! And you shouldn’t lick what you had spat! For once, let me have a happiness that I deserved without you in my life. Why was it so hard for you to understand?”

“Because-“

Ohno stopped.

They kept staring at each other as Ohno fished out his phone from his pocket.

From the frown on Ohno’s face as he read the name on the screen, Nino didn’t need to be told twice. But when the frown on Ohno’s face deepened as he answered the phone call, Nino knew, they’re reaching the end.

“She’s critical.” Was what left Ohno’s mouth.

***

Throughout the way home, Nino watched how restless Ohno was. He kept looking at his watched, hoping that the driver could make it in time. His tears were threatening to fell.

They didn’t speak at all for the whole 4 hours journey. Deep inside, Nino wished to be the one to calm the man down. But as he kept telling himself that he wasn’t the one for Ohno, he held back, sitting quietly next to the man who was kept looking out the window, trying so hard to hide his sadness and anxious over the news he had just received.

He is a human. He can tell everyone how mad he was for everything that happened between them. He can tell every single person that he met about how he hate Ohno for make he felt wasted before. But then, his sympathy won. He couldn’t bear watching the sadness displayed all over the man’s face. He couldn’t act like he just didn’t care about it.

It wasn’t about love. It’s because the nature of human who has some sympathy over this kind of situation.

His hand reaching Ohno’s, gripping his hand as he tried to ensure of something he wasn’t sure of. To tell the man that everything’s going to be alright will be a lie, when he sure that everything won’t be the same from now on. For Ohno or for him.

Ohno just let him do it without a sign or a word of protest. He just stayed quiet along their way home. Once in a while, he told the driver to make it fast and Nino could only let the stingy stabbing pain played with his heart.

Ohno didn’t wait as they arrived. Every promised Ohno tried to make just now felt like a lie, a dream as if it never exist at the first place. Nino watched how the man rushed into the house, rushing into bedroom for his wife, ignoring his world. He didn’t blame Ohno though. The man had made it clear that he loved her.

Before he could enter the house, two pairs of eyes landed on him. On their face written a thousand feeling that make him hesitate to step into the house. But when the woman start to speak, he felt like his burden gone.

“Kazu,”

“Aunt-“he didn’t get his chance to speak when suddenly he was brought into her embrace. Tears that he had been holding since before break as he buried his face in her embrace.

“Forgive her, Kazu. Please forgive her,” his aunt said, chanting her plead again and again. All he could do was nod.

***

He wanted to show his sincere smile as he walked into Miyuki’s room.

He couldn’t.

Ohno was there next to her, kneeling by the side of the bed with his hands gripping hers, bringing them close to his lips as he kissed it tenderly. His eyes red caused by the tears that he didn’t bother to wipe them away.

And there was Miyuki, lying hopelessly on the bed, waiting for her final breathe.

“Kazu-nii,” she held out her another hand for him. Quickly, Nino took it. He kneeled by her side, trying to fake a smile as he stroke her hair lovingly. He wanted to tell her; even if she didn’t asked for it, that there’s no hatred exist in his heart toward her now. He wanted to tell her that he is fine, even though the past has hurt him but he was ready to move forward.

But then, with her weaken strength, she pulled him towards her. Her tears fall at the side of her eyes that Nino instantly wipe them away.

“I live in regret, Kazu-nii.” She spoke, her words choke by her sobs. “If only, if only I could turn back the time-“

“No one can, Mii-chan.” Nino cut her. “Even though I was feeling bitter about it, I’m sure HE has write a better plan for me.”

She cried. Hearing Nino’s words told her that whatever she was hoping are going to be a dust soon. But still, she couldn’t give up. Her guilt conquer her. She can’t leave without making it right again.

According to her…

“Kazu-nii. Please. Promise me,” she pleaded in between her sobs. “Please promise me that you will love him again. I- I can’t leave peacefully without-“

She stopped when she saw Nino shook his head. His tears were threatening to fall but he shouldn’t. Not now. Not in front of her.

“I refuse to promise that,” Nino said it short.

“Kazu-nii, please-“

Nino shook his head again. He took her hand into his, kiss her with his lips smiling bitterly as he spoke.

“No secret between us, right?” he asked. Hesitantly, Miyuki nodded.

At this point, Nino wonder if he was strong enough. From the corner of his eyes, he saw how Ohno, at the point of breaking, eyeing them curiously as Nino leaned to her ear.

He whispered something to her. A truth. Something that he can’t change it anymore. When he pulled back, he regret it when he saw she cried.

“Kazu-nii-“she cried, gripping Nino’s hand as hard as she could. “Kazu-nii, I’m sorry,”

Nino shook his head. His tears that had been welling up his eyes since before started to break. No matter how hard he tried to stop, he was sobbing as he kissed her on her temple once again.

It would be a lie if he said he wasn’t mad. He’s a human. Of course he did feel mad about the things happened between them. But his love for his beloved cousin surpassed everything. He couldn’t stay mad for long.

She stopped begging him to love Ohno again. Instead, she begged for Nino to stay by her side.

But how could he? Miyuki, even she had made a selfish decision before, was his dearest one. Watching her dying would kill him too. It was too much for him. Hence, he made his selfish decision.

Nino rushed out the room, even though she begged him to stay.
