He's a police officer. I'm working for people who might as well be "villains". Their arch enemies are also on the police force. It's pretty likely that'll I'll die while working for them.

But I can't abandon either of them. I won't.

Sounds like you might be stuck betraying at least one of 'em, then. If he cares about the other policemen, you're not going to get brownie points for leaving him alone while you go after them.

We have a truce with them for now, but who knows how long that'll last.
