Since I get on people for not posting, maybe I'll actually post something too. Let's see.....what's been going on in the world of me.....
The graduate school finally got their thumb out of their ass and decided to fix things. My class got added to make me full time (I needed them to sign off on it since it's an Independent Study and there's red tape involved with that) and that meant my financial aid finally went through. The grad school also let me have my assistantship (aka money to live on over the year) with a little less hastle after the class thing got situated. (Long story that is just stupid and dumb and we made them mad because we went over their heads and proved them wrong....so now they're being extra mean with me) But at least money troubles are something I won't have to worry about as much right now.
Classes are going ok. It'll be busy with them and trying to bust my ass in the lab to get research going/done. I had a huge presentation last Friday (yup, I was the lucky one who got to go first). And by huge I mean that I had to take up 2 hours of class time presenting a paper (heavy on the methods and procedures....which I only kind of understood) and discussion on it. Luckily it did take up the whole time, even more than expected. And now it's done and I won't have to think about doing another big one like that for a month or so (we have to do 2 for the semester). Stuff on the research end is going ok. Having a little trouble with one group of my flies and extracting the DNA, but that's hopefully figured out and fixed. Two of my primers are working, so I'm going to get them ready and sent of for sequencing soon (hopefully) and I'll have to work on my other three primers to get them to work. (I know this makes no sense to most of you, if not all of you....and if you're really interested I'll give you all the gory detailas. But feel free to just take it at face value.)
Teaching Genetics lab this semester seems like it'll be a big change of pace from 1101/1102. I have students who are actually interested in learning and being there, not just there becuase they have to be. And I'll be teaching a big more detailed stuff, which is kindda scary! I have a small group though, so that's really nice. Only 8 of them in there, which will make things a bit easier, especially with grading since I'll be grading lab reports.
Still getting used to the schedule...can't seem to find enough time for sleep though. Just can't get enough sleep, I always want more. But I guess everyone's in that same boat. And it doesn't help that Beverly keeps wanting to drag me out late at night to karaoke night, and somebody taking up lots of my free time. Nope, no help to getting enough sleep at all.
ummmm.....I'm sure there's more I could talk about....but my brain's starting to not want to work and I need to go stain my gel and eat some lunch. Then it's off to the yarn store for a few hours.
