1. Korra (The Legend of Korra): A Beautiful Day - Tom Boxer feat Jay
I see no reasons to cry/ I feel no reasons to run/ Just look inside your lonely heart/ Open your eyes, you'll see the sun
It's a beautiful world/ It's a beautiful day/ The sun is shining to my heart/ Every morning in every day
Well, these are the only lyrics this song has, and they fit pretty well with the end of Season 1, when Aang appears to a tearful Korra, because being in her lowest moment she has opened herself to her Avatar Spirit. Her powers are restored and when her eyes open they are glowing with the light of the Avatar State. Mako appears and she leaps joyfully into his arms.
2. Martha Jones (Doctor Who): When Autons Attack - Turn Left
When I woke up this morning, it was just an ordinary day. But I can't remember that feeling, nothing's going to be the same.
Because now I know aliens exist, and that there's so much more to life than this, and I feel like I could stay up all night,
Haha, nice. I don't have many Trock songs, so this is really serendipitous. These lyrics fit nicely with Martha's POV in Smith and Jones, although Martha knew about the existence of aliens from previous invasions. First time she met some, though!
3. Don Quijote: Paradise Circus - Massive Attack
It's unfortunate that when we feel a storm
We can roll ourselves over 'cause we're uncomfortable
Well, this one was never going to be easy. But I think these lyrics can describe how he felt on those long, dark nights of the soul when part of him had begun to doubt this whole wandering knight business, but was still unwilling to admit that to himself.
4 Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy IX): To Be Loved Papa Roach
I’ve got to follow my heart/ No matter how far/ I’ve gotta roll the dice/ Never look back and never think twice
Whoa I'll never give in/ Whoa I'll never give up
What struck me about the hero of FF9 was how he wouldn't think twice about dropping everything to help his friends, even when he'd just met them, no matter how difficult or dangerous it would be or whether the problems they were trying to solve would affect his life at all or not. I found his cheerful, impulsive bravery and devotion refreshing and touching. This was years before I would discover the Doctor.
5. Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter): Wavin' Flag - K'naan love is the way/ Love is the answer,
I assume that waving flag has a phoenix symbol on it :)
6 Arthur Dent (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy): Seals of Love - Much Ado About Nothing
TAKE, O take those lips away,
That so sweetly were forsworn; And those eyes, the break of day, Lights that do mislead the morn! But my kisses bring again, Bring again; Seals of love, but seal'd in vain,
Seal'd in vain!
Aww man, he and Fenchurch were so cute. Also, now I'm picturing a chorus of seals singing So Long and So Thanks For All the Fish.
7. Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice): Un Cuento Sobre el Agua - La Oreja de Van Gogh (translated) And for you to take me by the hand, and whisper that you've arrived, and promise me that you're happy by my side.
You and Darcy are just gross ;) The title means 'A Story Over the Water', so this must be the Colin Firth Darcy.
8. Lyra (His Dark Materials): Soulmate - Natasha Bedingfield Who doesn't long for someone to hold/ Who knows how to love you without being told
Must be nice to have a Daemon. Although I admit that the first place my mind went when I saw the title of the song was with the other, sadder interpretation. Come on, Philip Pullman, finish The Book of Dust, please.
9. Wendy Darling (Peter Pan): The Flying Song - Colin James Hay Now we're flying so high/ With the world down below/ Spread your wings across the sky
You just need to think happy thoughts and sprinkle some fairy dust :D
10. Gollum (The Lord of the Rings): Stars - The XX
I don't have to exist outside of this place/ And dear, know that I can change/ But if the stars shouldn't shine/ By the very first time
Then dear it's fine, so fine by me/ 'Cause we can give it time/ So much time with me
Gollum lives out centuries in a dark cave where his only solace is his Precioussss.
11. Hamlet: We Hate You Please Die - Scott Pilgrim vs the World BSO I hear my god in a coma freeze
Lonely (x2)
Lonely, lonely like you.
Why bother with the whole To Be or Not to Be soliloquy when this gets the message across so much more succintly?
12. Jo March (Little Women): After the Storm - Mumford and Sons And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears./ And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,/ With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.
And now I cling to what I knew/ I saw exactly what was true
Jo's rejection of Laurie. My elder sister still rants about this. It makes me laugh to see someone who has never known fandom display fangirl rage at the sinking of her ship.
13. Captain LeChuck (Monkey Island): Lily the Pink - Suzanne McKenney Now here's a story
A little bit gory A little bit happy
A little bit sad
...and that's how I became a fearsome zombie pirate captain. The End.
14. Joan Watson (Elementary): Take a Bow - Muse
Death/ You bring death, and destruction to all that you touch
Pay/ You must pay
Her feelings after the incident that caused her to abandon the medical profession. I was getting worried Muse wouldn't make an appearance on this list.
15. Daenerys Targaryen (Game of Thrones): Falling Down - Muse Five thousand houses burning down/ No-one is gonna save this town
They're like buses! Don't get in the way of the Khaleesi's path to the throne or she'll rain dragonfire on you.
