Lovettsville resident, Ayala Sherbow is happy to announce the official GRAND OPENING of her Lovettsville store, Greater Goods, on Saturday, July 14th. Lovettsville Mayor Elaine Walker will be present for the official Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 12:00 noon. Greater Goods’ mission is to provide beautiful and useful merchandise that has been specially selected to be environmentally-friendly and socially responsible. Store owner, Ayala Sherbow said, “In a global economy the way we choose to spend our money is as powerful as the way we choose to vote. The products we buy and the companies we choose to support have a direct impact on the health of the planet and the quality of life of our fellow humans. Greater Goods wants to provide quality products that enrich people’s lives and help them provide a healthy home for themselves, a fair living for others, and a healthy planet for us all.”
Ms. Sherbow and her cousin and business partner, Michal Rowse, have created a warm and welcoming store filled with a unique variety of products. Market shelves are stocked with practical goods like recycled paper towels, non-toxic, all-natural cleaning supplies, organic pet products, and organic, fair-trade coffee. Antique furniture is artfully arranged to display fine art and craft from around the world - including hand-woven baskets from Ghana, beaded jewelry from Nepal, and hand woven home textiles from India and Guatemala.
Ms. Rowse, explained the importance of seeking out “fair trade” suppliers, saying, “Many of these goods are produced in impoverished communities by women. The money the women earn from selling their handcrafts at a fair wage directly improves the well-being of their family. The women use this money to feed, clothe and educate their children.”
During the Grand Opening on July 14th, there will be refreshments, free samples, and door prizes. Greater Goods has been open since Earth Day, April 22, 2007 and is located at 1 South Loudoun St, Lovettsville, Virginia.
