Dmitrii Shepilov

If anyone remembers, back in December I wrote an index for a book that was being published by Yale University Press and being edited by my thesis advisor, Dr. Stephen Bittner. Yesterday I arrived at work to discover that he had left my promised copy for me. Yale finally released the damn thing.

I opened the book, turning to the index...my work...my work in a published book. Yeah, an index isn't exactly the stuff of dreams, but I busted my ass to do it...and to see my work in print...well, I was proud. I got my mention, in the acknowledgements, too. I joked that I would sit down and read the book except for the fact I have read it about five times now. Anyway, it was moving, just looking at the book, which I now have prominently displayed on my desk. The books is even listed at amazon.com, so I think everyone should shell out $40 and go buy The Kremlin's Scholar: A Memoir of Soviet Politics under Stalin and Khrushchev by Dmitrii Shepilov, edited by Stephen Bittner, and translated by Anthony Austin.
