Hip Hip Hooray For Christmas Vacation!

Dec 14, 2006 02:06

Well it’s finally here, Christmas Vacation. Yay! Monday was my last final. It was pretty easy compared to my finals last Friday. Last week was a crazy week. I had so much shit due, it’s not even funny. I had to read my draft out loud last Monday. Then the new Writing teacher gave suggestions. I hardly listened to any of them. I had already written two drafts of the thing and I was so sick of it. I changed a couple sentences here and there, then I called it a day lol. That paper was considered to be our final for the class, so I hope I did okay on it. We also got our previous paper back that he graded. I guess he dropped them off at her office, and she handed them back to us. I got an A. Color me surprised that freakboy actually gave me an A. Maybe he just figured since his ass was fired that he’d barely read our papers and give everyone a decent grade. I don’t know what the new teacher is going to give me for a grade though. I really wanted straight A’s this semester, but that isn’t looking so good. On Wednesday night, I had to stay up all night finishing my Shakespeare paper. Lyn and I chatted on YIM the whole time. Lyn, that was too funny wasn’t it? It’s like we were both trying to motivate each other. She would ask me how much I had left to go, and then I would ask her. I seriously don’t think I would have survived that paper if I didn’t have you to talk too and keep me from throwing things around the room. So thank-you Lyn! :)

Friday was my first day of finals. I had two finals that day. I had to get up at like 5:30 that morning so I could take a 6:30 bus. I was running on probably 2 hours sleep for the past two days. It was freezing out too, like 3 degrees. Not that I am completely complaining, because it was much better than it being 50 degrees. So my Shakespeare final was first and it was hard. It sucked too, because she didn’t really tell us what to expect on it so I felt so unprepared. I didn’t even know what to study so I just reviewed notes and stuff. Well she gave us ten mini essays. Then she gave us two major essays. She wanted two “well developed essays”. I was like WTF! You’re crazy. I can’t even write one well developed essay in an hour, let alone two. I had already used up an hour of the test time writing the ten mini essays. So I wrote two shitty essays that took a half an hour each. I filled up two blue books. My Music final was a scantron sheet. It was definitely a welcome break to just fill in bubbles. I thought I did okay, but I got my grade. I got a B+. I thought I did better than that. Yeah I know I’m weird, but I never think anything is good enough. There were so many questions on the test though so what did I get like over ten wrong? They probably were worth only like a point each. Now I wish I would have studied more. My Music Final was 3 hours after my Shakespeare one so I did review my Music notes during that time. I did still end up with an A in the class, since I got an A on everything else. I still didn’t love the class. I much rather just listen to music and enjoy it than overanalyze it. My final on Monday for my Lit class was ten mini essays again, but we only had to pick six. It was on themes of some of the stories and poems we read during the semester. I knew what to expect so I think I did okay. I think the Shakespeare class and the Writing Class are going to kill my dream of a 4.0 average this semester though.

I promised Lyn like two weeks ago that I would upload some Christmas music for her. My apologies that it took me so long. I really hope that you don’t have all these songs. I wouldn’t doubt it if you do though. You are the music guru afterall lol. Everyone else here is free to download them as well. Even if you just happened to click on my journal some way or another, feel free to download. I hope they put you in a holiday mood. :) These are some of my favorite Christmas songs. Most of them are newish songs, and only one is a classic Christmas song. What I mean is most of them are original lyrics and not remakes of classic Christmas songs.

Let’s start with "The Christmas Song" By the Raveonettes. No it doesn’t start “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire” lol. It’s totally different. I first heard this song on Christmas With The Kranks, which I happen to think is a good movie. I know the critics panned it or whatever, but it’s funny. I read the book Skipping Christmas, which is a really good book too. If you have time and want to get in the Christmas spirit, watch the movie. The Botox scene makes me cry tears of laughter. Yeah I know. I’m a dork. If you are more of a reader than a movie watcher, read the book. Well do both if you can lol. The ending always gets me misty in both the book and movie. Oh and I think someone told me this song was on the OC before too. I’m not sure though.

Next on the list is "Angel Voice" By Knockout Never heard of Knockout? Well guess what??? Neither have I lol. I still couldn’t even tell you who they are. However, I like this song. I got this CD for Christmas one year called “School’s Out” with all these Christmas songs. This song was on it. The song would probably be considered bubblegum or whatever, but I think it’s a nice song.

Third up is "Jingle Baby" By Stephanie Mills” This is one of those fun Christmas songs. “And I’ll be your Jingle Baby if you’ll be my Jingle Boy”. Those are some of the lyrics so you get the idea. I heard this song years ago on that Comcast channel that plays all Christmas songs. Then as soon as I got Itunes, I downloaded it.

I’m sure you’ve heard of this one and you probably already have it. "Believe" By Josh Groban I can’t even tell you how much I love this song. It’s from The Polar Express which is another amazing Christmas movie. If you haven’t seen it, seriously go watch it. I love this song because the lyrics are so true. It’s like we grow up and we feel too old for magic, but then there is just something about Christmas time that makes you feel just like a little kid again. Wow that just sounded so cheesy. Sorry :o Not to mention Josh Groban sings it, and I think he has an amazing voice.

This is another song from The Polar Express, “When Christmas Comes To Town” By Matthew Hall and Meagan Moore” I just adore this song too. The part in the movie when the kids sing this is my favorite part of the whole movie. It’s just so cute and the lyrics remind me of how it felt when I believed in Old Saint Nick. Wow, I am just the queen of cheese tonight. Someone call Hallmark or something lol.

Here’s another song from a movie. Now That I think of it a lot of these songs are from movies lol. This one is from How The Grinch Stole Christmas, the live action one. It’s called ”Where are You Christmas” By Faith Hill Now I wasn’t a big fan of the movie. It was okay, I guess. I love the song though. It makes me think of how you feel as you grow up that Christmas changes for you. However, Christmas spirit can never fade away. There’s another cheesy line for you, but I digress.

This is a more romantic song. It’s “On Christmas Morning” By Kenny Loggins. It’s about a guy who spent one memorable Christmas with a girl. I heard it on the Comcast Christmas music channel too and I fell in love with it. I think it’s really pretty. I ended up buying his whole CD. It’s not my favorite holiday CD but there are a couple good songs on it, this being one of them.

This last song is the only classic. It’s ”Silent Night” By Sarah Mclachlan. I think it’s a brand new version by her. It’s very pretty, but not my favorite version of the song. I love Damien Rice’s version. But alas I don’t have it. If anyone does (hint, hint lol) I would be most appreciative.

I think I should call this mix “Devan Gets All Cheesy: A Christmas To Remember”. LMAO! I finally got to do some corrupting of my own. Yay! Now if you aren’t Lyn or Alex, then you probably have no idea what that means but it’s a good thing to be corrupted. Trust me :D

Enjoy the songs everyone and if you have any end of school projects or finals, hope you do well! :D

christmas, songs, school, real life
