So, as some of you may know I have a big problem with the Performance Network. Why? Well, I've never seen a show there. Why? Well, it's because their POSTERS are so unbelievably lame it personally offends me as a theater artist. And I personally blame it for making all of my friends say "no" when I suggest that we see a play. Because all they really know or think about theater is summed up in the PERFORMANCE NETWORK POSTERS.
So anyway, most of their posters are hideously boring, and feature--gasp--pictures of the actors in costumes looking kind of . . . intrigued . . . or something. The newest one advertises a play called "The Little Dog Laughed" and the main characters are a gay couple. Guess how they're depicted? JUST GUESS?! That's right. Shirtless. No matter that they play is about other things--THERE ARE GAY MEN IN IT SO THE ENTIRE MEANING OF THE PLAY MUST BE SUMMED UP BY TWO SHIRTLESS, CLEAN-SHAVEN MEN LOOKING MILDLY BORED OR INTRIGUED OR SOMETHING. The picture I protest to is not on the web. It can only be viewed in person on the street. I checked.
Anyway, I'll never see the play. And neither will any of the other people whom I ask to go see a different play in the future.
