Random Messed Up Thoughts and a Cute Story!

Just thought I would post this cute lil' story I had to write for one of my classes this Fall.  Without realizing it, I kinda wrote about myself (I'm Lightning!).  I wonder though, if I'll ever find anyone.  It seems like everyday, I wake up to another lonely, empty day.  It's so depressing to see all the happy families and happy young couples at work.  Yeah, it's great they are together, but it hurts knowing that nobody in the world wants me.  What is so wrong with me?  I'm almost 22 years old and I've never had a relationship to last over a week.  Everyone says don't worry or just concentrate on college.  Well, the one's that say don't worry have a happy family to be with and don't know what it is like to be alone.  I lost my Daddy who was everything to me.  I lost my nephew who brought what little happiness I had into my life.  I messed up things with Andy too.  Why concentrate on college?  I have 2 worthless degrees from MECC that can't get me absolutely nothing!  If I do graduate from ETSU, what good is that gonna do me?  I'll have a 4 year degree to slaughter pigs in the Food City Deli.  Why have I made straight A's and why do I continue to go to college when I'm never gonna be anything?  I just feel so lost and alone right now....Anyways, here's my cute story!

Lightning Gets a Home

By: Becky Egan

Once upon a time, a small wooden car named Lightning was for sale in old Mr. Jolly's Toy Store.  Lightning had no special parts, no lights, or sounds to get the attention of the children who came in the store daily.  He was just a carved block of wood that was painted red with yellow lightening stripes.  For years, Lightning sit on the shelf and watched all the other toys being bought by happy children. "That's boring!" shouted one boy as he glanced at Lightning.   He felt as if he would never have a home.  Every night Lightning would wish for a child to play with him.  All he wanted was to be loved, but no one seemed to want just a plain old wooden car.

One day, two rowdy boys were playing tag in the toy store.  Their parents were busy talking to Mr. Jolly, so there was no one to tell the boys to stop running in the store. The boys chased each other around a table and knocked some teddy bears onto the floor; yet no adult noticed.  The boys then bumped into a display case full of baby dolls, yet the adults still did not notice.  "Tag, you're it!" shouted one of the boys.  As he turned to run away from his brother, he knocked over the cage holding the bouncy balls.  The balls bounced everywhere!  Toys fell all over the floor.

Lightning saw the whole commotion from his shelf up on the wall.  "Good thing I'm up here on this shelf." thought Lightning.  However, Lightning had thought too soon.  A big blue ball bounced hard against the wall below Lightning's shelf.  Lightning was terrified as he slowly started to roll to the edge of the shelf.  Boom!  Lightning hit the floor upside-down with a loud thud!

It had been a long time since Lightning had been off the shelf.  "I think I'm alright," thought Lightning as he looked at the mess surrounding him.  Then Lightning noticed something strange.  His wheels were missing!  The hard fall had caused his old wooden wheels to break completely off his axles.  Lightning was heart-broken.  "Nobody will ever buy me now!" he cried.

Mr. Jolly was a very kind man.  Any other storekeeper would be furious with the boys over the mess they caused.  The boys explained to their parents and Mr. Jolly that they were sorry for making such a huge mess.  The boys agreed to help Mr. Jolly clean up the store before they could go home.  Between the three of them, the store was cleaned up in no time.  One of the brother's saw Lightning laying on the floor upside-down.  "Cool! I've always wanted a wooden car!" said the boy.  His brother ran over and said "That's just like the car Daddy has!"  Mr. Jolly was sweeping the floor when he found four small wheels that had rolled under the counter.  "I think I found the wheels to that car, boys" said Mr. Jolly.  The boys became very excited as Mr. Jolly glued the wheels back onto Lightning.  "You know a car like this is hard to find these days." Mr. Jolly told the boys.  With big blue eyes, the boys stared at Mr. Jolly, who felt they had learned their lesson and worked very hard.

Lightning's heart was racing, he wanted so badly to go home with the boys.  Mr. Jolly thought for a minute and said "If you boys promise not to wreck my store again, I will let you have this car."  The boys jumped and shouted "We promise, we promise!"  For the first time, Lightning felt the love of a child as the boys took turns holding him in their arms as they ran home.
