Information. How much is healthy?
I decided that I was tired of being told that saturated fats are bad. Not that I disbelieve it, more that there is never more detail shed upon the why. So here's a few facts I found. Bear in mind as you read that I know very little on this subject, so I may relay things badly, or even altogether incorrectly. But

a) That was all very interesting,
b) If I'd been the one who put the effort into researching it, I might conclude that it wasn't worth it unless it was a topic I was really interested in.
(c) - so thanks for doing it!!)
BUT
d) There is so much conflicting info about food in general that I'm inclined to throw out all bar the basic principles - don't eat too much fat, eat fruit and veg, and do some exercise! (Apparently there's also something about "don't drink too much booze"…I may get around to that one too at some point :-) )
On information in general - I like researching things I'm interested in, but it's frustrating when information conflicts (as it often does with web-based research, cos an awful lot of eejits with strong opinions and little brain have net access!). There are some clues as to what info is "better quality" - is it referenced? Have there been studies to support it? - but sometimes you just have to either take it at face value or leave it. (Tinks' link to the site that says Hell is in fact in the centre of the earth and we all turn into red dragons when we get there is actually quite well referenced and thought-out, considering its lunacy!)
This is especially annoying when there's received wisdom that everyone accepts at face value, that later turns out to be untrue - eg I heard recently that scientists have found NO evidence that drinking 8 glasses of water a day do anything other than make you pee a lot - yet this has been cited for years as a good thing to do for your health! I heard this on the radio, by Terry Wogan…so do I believe it? Does the prhase "scientists have found" actually convince me that it must be true? Not without further research…but I can't be bothered, as I don't drink 8 glasses of water a day anyway. :-)
I think my point there was that unless I'm really interested in a topic or really feel I need to find out about it, I'm not going to bother researching it online as I'm unlikely to come out with any more hard facts than I went in with! (I'll come out *knowng* a lot more about the debate - but not necessarily able to come to any conclusions.)
