Prompt: pretend to be bored
Word Count: 298

Colonel O’Neill leaned against the bars of the door of the brig on the goa’uld ship. Behind him, his team were sitting up slowly, shaking their heads to will their eyesight back. By the third or fourth time they’d been hit by the goa’uld version of a smoke bomb, they knew what to expect, but you never truly got used to waking up blind.

Slouching against the door, he waited for Sam, Daniel, and Teal’c to gather their bearings while he kept watch for any guards. He tried to look bored, so that if anyone came, they wouldn’t see him as a threat. Getting the goa’uld to underestimate them was surprisingly easy, even after all this time.

“How long has it been, sir?” Carter asked, rising to her feet. He frowned and looked back at her, but she was tapping repeatedly at her watch. Ah. It must have broken when she fell.

“It’s only been twenty minutes,” he replied, returning a disinterested face back to the hallway. There was no one coming. Even if there was nothing to see, Jaffa guards were heavily armed, and they made so much noise you could always hear them well before you saw them.

With a heavy sigh, O’Neill turned away from the door and back to the team. No use putting on a show for no one. He offered a hand to Daniel and helped pull the archaeologist up to his feet. “All right, we all know the plan.” They had escaped from so many of these it was barely worth reviewing anymore. “Until the guards come, we’ll just have to sit here and wait.” He scrunched his face up in distaste. He hated the wait. If the guards took too long, he wouldn’t even have to pretend to be bored.
