OOC ❦ Memory (8) - Movie theater

There was a waterfall, somewhat taller than a man, surrounded by trees. Standing on a moss-covered rock at the base of the waterfall were two boys-one in a pale, colorless kimono with white hair, obviously a younger Ginko; the other had dark hair and eyes, and was wearing a dark blue kimono. They both looked perhaps a little younger than ten; Ginko’s back was to the other boy.

The dark-haired child took a step forward, making enough sound to alert Ginko to his presence. He turned, revealing he had only one visible eye, deep green in color. The other was covered by his hair, just the same as the Ginko sitting in the theater, watching.

The other boy was looking around the clearing as if expecting to find someone or something else there. Finally he turned to Ginko and asked, “Where’s Isaza?”

Ginko looked back at the waterfall. “He already left.” His voice was oddly dull, almost flat, a strange tone to hear coming from a child.

The other boy took a step closer, his eyebrows coming down in anger. “You’re lying. He wouldn’t!”

Still looking away, Ginko said, “The ___ started shifting in the middle of the night. It couldn’t be helped.” There was a small pause, in which the other boy just stared. “Isaza left you a message. He said, I’m sorry.”

Another pause, filled with the sound of the waterfall, as the other boy’s face fell. He looked like he was suffering from some huge disappointment.

Finally, Ginko spoke again. “They have to follow the ____.” He moved slightly, placing one hand on the side of the rock above his head, and turning a little so he could look at the pool at the base of the waterfall. “The ___ are people who were kicked out of their villages because of the mushi. If that is your path as well, then someday, you’ll meet again.”

“They were kicked out, huh? You mean like you were?” The boy was looking straight at him now, emboldened by something.

“Hey, Ginko.” A new voice now; masculine, older. That of an adult. Ginko turned in the direction the voice was coming from, and another person came into view. Too far away to see his features, he was wearing a broad straw hat, a dark blue kimono, and a medicine seller’s box strapped to his back. “We’re leaving.”

Ginko started to follow after the adult even as he replied to the other boy. “I’ve already been kicked out again.” He started to climb up the hill, out of the small hollow of the waterfall, but paused before he got too far. “Oh, he had one more thing he wanted to tell you.” The other boy turned to look up at Ginko again. “He said that the rest of you should get away from this mountain as well.”

The screen faded as the memory came to an end.
