Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Dec 10, 2008 09:55

This milestone towards establishing basic human rights celebrates its 60th Anniversary today.

Yay!

Christian activists organizations try to seize the opportunity to force the definition of 'marriage' as one man and one woman into International Law.
Deceitfully headlined as "Christians Push Human Rights on Anniversary "

The United Families International (UFI), along with a coalition of social conservative groups from around the world, will present a petition of 340,000 names at the United Nations to urge that all member nations and states interpret the UNDHR to mean that:

The right to life, liberty and security is for every person; that each child born or unborn, has the right to birth and a full, natural life. That a child has the right to a mother and a father, of full age, within the bonds of marriage defined as between a man and a woman. And, that the parents have the right to raise and educate their children without any limitation due to race, religion, culture or nationality.

Is it just me?
Or does the idea of FORCING your religious views on the planet seem a tad in conflict with the concept of Human Rights?

Also, isn't todays radical christian right 'pushing for human rights' as disingenuous as the Aryan Nation issuing statements supporting Israel?

Why hasn't the population of the planet reached its fill of this intolerant, hateful, homophobic CULT yet?

NOTE: If you are someone actually following the words and teachings of the biblical entity known as 'Jesus', please keep in mind that I in no way connect followers of that rabbi's teaching with today's evangelical and fundamentalist movements that have defined christianity today. In the words of Ghandi - "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ"
