Two Articles on Gay Marriage

Last night, my brother sent me a fascinating post on gay marriage from a libertarian point of view.

Linky! It takes some really solid historical points and weaves them into... well, not an anti-gay marriage post, that's for sure. In fact, the author is quick to point out that they have no opinion on gay marriage, and is pretty sure this article ( Read more... )

That is very sad... I have shared both with a variety of people, and most especially the one about reformers needing to know the purpose of what they are trying to reform before it's even a good idea to think about reform.

That one made me stop and think a great deal about it all. I tend to be one of those people who find myself in a position that is neither black nor white on these topics. Legally I'm seeing that it's not only likely that this will go through, but according to how things are written it should either be all the way accepted or all the way rejected, and I can see that going the former rather than the latter. I don't have a lot of legal argument to it - just moral argument, but what I believe isn't relevant, more what the people decide.. and then I suppose God will do as he will with the situation. I view it much like I view abortion - I don't agree with the practice of it, but how am I going to legally say that others don't deserve to choose? It's a little scary to think about how it could impact families in the future.... and these articles gave me a lot to think about.

I love being able to get more comprehensive view points on it, and first person view points - the types you presented, because it adds to my store of knowledge and understanding.

One thing someone said to me that I loved to add to my little treasure trove of understanding was that civil marriage and holy matrimony are different things.. and it rang quite true to me. The interplay of how things impact society is vastly complicated.
