Jack was making his way to the theatre when he heard Tosh in his comms.

“Jack the reading at the theatre is back and stronger this time.  How far away are you?”

“I’m just going in the front entrance.  Where about’s is the reading coming from?”

“It’s on the stage.”

“Right I’m on my way there.  Look if I need any help I’ll call, ok?”

“Ok, Owen’s still here but Gwen’s gone home to Rhys.”

“Fine, shouldn’t think I’ll need you but thanks anyway.  I’ll let you know.”

He clicked off the comms and made his way through to the auditorium.  Looking at his watch, nearly nine, hopefully no one would be there.  He got a shock when he came face to face with Ianto Jones.

“I thought I told you to go away?”

“Oh I did, but we’ve had more reports that the intruder is back.”

“I don’t know where you’re getting your reports from, but I can assure you no one here has called the police.  And anyway if you’re the police, why the 1940’s uniform?”

“Don’t you like it?  Some people think it’s sexy” said Jack with a huge grin.

Ianto was thrown by this comment “Erm....well it’s....erm.”

“Oh come on, admit it, you like it?”

“Well....erm....yes, it....well it suits you.”  What was he saying?  He was admitting to this infuriating man that he looked good in that coat.  And if truth be known sexy too.

Ianto was tired and all he wanted to do was go home and sleep.  “What are you doing back here?”

“Like I said, we got another sighting of our suspect.”

“Look there is no one else here but us.  I sent everyone home and I’m just about to leave too.  I suggest you get your facts straight before interrupting again.”  Ianto muttered something in Welsh under his breath.

Mmmm whatever he just said sounded sexy.  “I’m sorry to have bothered you again.  Look can I make it up to you and buy you a coffee as an apology?”

“I’m sorry, I have to be up early in the morning for the technical rehearsal, so I’d rather get back to my hotel.”

“Oh go on, it’s still early and I promise I’ll explain everything.”  Jack found himself hoping this gorgeous man infront of him would say yes.  He’d have to keep trying, he wanted to see more of him.

Ianto looked at his watch - 9.30pm - it was getting late, but there was something about this man that, ok, was infuriating, but also intriguing.  Why was he feeling like this?

“That would be nice thank you.  I could do with a coffee after the evening I’ve just had.”

“Come on, I know just the place and you can tell me about your production.  Oh by the way, I’ve got tickets for the opening night.”

“Great, I think.  I just hope it lives up to the publicity we’ve had.”  Why was he telling this man about the play like this?  He needed that coffee, he wasn’t thinking straight.  Why did he want to be with this man and why were feelings surfacing that hadn’t been there since Lisa?

Jack smiled “Come on then Mr Jones, let’s get that coffee.”

The Tennos had been watching the proceedings in the auditorium.  Soon Harkness, you’ll pay for what you did.  That I promise.  One way or another you’ll pay.

~~~~~*~~~~~
Jack and Ianto walked to the coffee shop in silence.  Jack stole a glance at the young Welshman at his side, he smiled inwardly.  Don’t rush things Jack, you don’t want to frighten him off.
Ianto felt Jack’s eyes on him and looked across and smiled what am I doing here, I should be at my hotel going through the notes for tomorrow.  But....but this feels right.
They arrived at the coffee shop and whilst Jack went to get the drinks, Ianto found an empty booth.
Sitting down and placing a mug of steaming coffee in front of Ianto “I hope you don’t mind but I ordered my favourite blend for you too!”
“Erm....that’s fine, what is it?”
“Vanilla”
“Oh....that’s....that’s my favourite too.”  Ianto couldn’t believe he’d agreed to come here.  He looked across to Jack “so Mr Harkness what is it that you really do?  And don’t give me you’re a police officer or some other....”
“It’s Captain Harkness actually....and no I’m not a police officer.  The thing is I work for special ops, unfortunately that’s all I can say....for now.”
“What do you mean?  For now”
“Look, I’m not trying to make excuses, I can’t really say much more.  I’m sorry.”
Ianto nodded “Ok, but can I ask you a question?”
“Sure go ahead.”
“Why did you come to the threatre and why did you ask me for a coffee?”
“For starters that’s two questions, but....ok, the truth, the first answer....I was told that someone was at the theatre who shouldn’t have been there.  But as yet we haven’t been able to find him.  The second answer....I....well I wanted to find out more about you.”  Jack smiled and picked up his coffee.  Why am I shaking?  He’d been with plenty of young men before so why was he feeling like this about this gorgeous Welshman.
Ianto looked at Jack this is getting really stupid, he’s obnoxious, persistently arriving unexpectedly, good looking and has a gorgeous smile.  And yep, he looks sexy in that coat.
Jack brought Ianto out of his thoughts.  “So Mr Jones, by the sound of that accent you’re from these parts?”
“Yeah I am, you could say I’ve finally come home.”
“How long is it since you were in Cardiff?”  Jack was trying to make the man comfortable, not frighten him off.
“About ten years, I left to go to Drama School.  I was the first in my family to do anything like that and my mam and sister didn’t approve.  So after I graduated I just stayed away.”
“So why come back now?”
“It felt right and I wanted to prove my family wrong.  They thought....”  Ianto stopped there he didn’t want to let on that his family had asked him if he was gay.  Not when he was staring into those gorgeous eyes of Jack Harkness.  I need to get back to my hotel.  I’m tired and this is not right.
“Thought what Mr Jones?”
“What?....oh....sorry, they told me I was stupid, no one from our family had ever gone into the theatre and I wouldn’t make it.”
“But you have, right?”
“Yeah, I’ve had a few successes in the West End and would love to go to Broadway one day.  Why did I tell this man about my dreams.  I’ve never told anyone about going to Broadway.
“Hey we all have our dreams.  Maybe one day they’ll come true.”
“Look I’m sorry Captain Harkness, but I really must get back to my hotel.  I’ve got an early start in the morning with a technical rehearsal and I still have some notes to write up.  Thank you for the coffee.  It was a nice break from my hectic day.”
“No, the pleasure was all mine.  And it’s Jack.  Captain Harkness sounds so formal”
As they stood to leave Ianto held out his hand for Jack to shake, taking hold of his hand Jack felt a tingle travel through his fingers.  Stop with those thoughts, this is too soon.
“Well goodnight Mr Jones, and I hope things go ok for you tomorrow.  My colleagues and I are looking forward to opening night.”
“Look, if I can call you Jack, then I’m Ianto, and I hope that the play lives up to your expectations.”
“I’m sure it will....Ianto.  Hey where are you staying?”
“The St David’s, why?”
“Well why don’t I walk with you and we can discuss Shakespeare.”
Ianto smiled to himself.  He found himself wanting this man’s company.  “Ok that would be good.”
They left the coffee shop and headed for the hotel.  Jack was pleased that Ianto had said yes to the walk.
Ianto on the other hand was confused, one minute he wanted Jack’s company, the next he was thinking it was wrong.  He wasn’t gay so why didn’t he want to let him go home?
They made their way along the Plass discussing the merits of William Shakespeare and when they reached the St David’s Jack said “Well goodnight again Ianto Jones and I look forward to seeing the performance.”  Jack held his hand out this time and Ianto shook it.
Taking the hand offered Ianto felt a tingle in his fingers.  He hadn’t been sure the last time, but it was definitely there now.  Ok so I wasn’t imagining it, but what do I do? If nothing else, I need to sleep.
“Look Jack, I really must go and finish the notes, so I’ll bid you a goodnight and please come backstage and let me know what you thought of the performance.”
“Great, thanks, I will.  Well goodnight Ianto and thanks for being such good company.  I’m sorry if I delayed you.”
“No that’s fine, I think it’s done me good.”  Ianto turned and went into the hotel.
Jack watched him and smiled.  He had to see this gorgeous man again and the sensation he got when they shook hands, if he’d held on to the hand any longer he was sure Mr Jones would have seen the reaction in his trousers.  Jack smiled and made his way back to the Hub.
