Timeline - The 21st Century

The 21st century is when... everything gets really complicated and gives me a headache.

Unsurprising really. Obviously the 21st century is when the bulk of the episodes relevant to this timeline occur, so each year has to hold a lot more information. It's also a period where we're less likely to have exact dates that things happen as they're rarely ( Read more... )

Thanks - I'd forgoten that we saw his D/O/B, I'll add it as soon as I have time.

The difficulty is that we have exactly the same level of evidence in Aliens of London - there we see a poster that clearly states Rose went missing in March 2005 and then we're told in dialogue that it's been 12 months since she left with the doctor, meaning the episode can't take place any earlier than March 2006 - as the evidence takes exactly the same form (a date on screen coupled with dialogue), there's nothing to favour one over the other - it's a matter of choice.

We then know that The Christmas Invasion can only take place in 2006 or after and that that must happen before the first series of Torchwood. From dialogue in that series we also know that that series includes the following Christmas. Which means that for Owens dob to be correct we'd need the end of series 1, Series 3 of Dr Who and half of series 2 of Torchwood to take place in the space of two months - which just doesn't work.

Basically one of the dates we've seen are wrong and depending which you follow you'll get a different time line. I've chosen to accept the first date because I think slightly more of the evidence supports that date and it matches what the producers has stated as their intent - but it's really just a matter of choice which you choose to follow.

I should probably put something about this up the top later.

Thanks though, I'm trying to keep a record of everything that contradicts with this version of the time line.

Or it could be one of those wibbly-wobbly things where they're not points from the same timeline, because the Doctor's presence has been known to change things... But I think I look tired. ;)

(BTW, the word Owen uses IRT 'space pig' isn't working, it's joined:

OWEN: Oh, come on, Tosh. There's no way you could've anticipated that power spike, come on. Besides, you've saved… my back so many times in the past. Right from the moment I joined.
TOSH: Your second week I had to cover for you, pretend I was a medic, cos you were hung over and unreachable.

So possibly some wiggle room in there as to the exact level of his involvement at a given point? ...Yeah, I'm reaching. :) )
