Dubai: Dhows, quays, and washing machines

Apologies for the failure to blog, but I have been seeing friends and family much more than I have been travelling.

Dubai is interesting.

At the creek, old-fashioned Dhows unload boxed ultramodern packages on to the quayside, where they sit wrapped in tarpaulin and waiting for a truck. The Indian labourers heave the cargo around and crew the boats. It is very picturesque, and I have uploaded more photos of dhows and cargo at my Flickr stream. But the people who buy the washing machines are unlikely to be the people who bring them.
