I was at Readercon this weekend, in Massachusetts. I had a great and productive time, seeing old friends, new friends, business contacts, and more. I also talked about the web, the future of publishing, and what it takes to become a success in the web publishing world.
My attitude toward my web presence has been the let it develop organically: friend/link to/connect with the people I already know, and then let all the other connections come in from the outside, rather than going out to forge electronic connections with people with whom I have only tenuous real-world connections. And while that has resulted in connections that last, it was forcefully brought to my attention that it's a very slow-perhaps even unsuccessful-way to build an audience, and the goal of my electronic endeavors is to build a large audience. That audience, I hope, will bring in sufficient revenue to allow me to keep producing everything I'm producing.
With that in mind, I'm actively asking for help. But it's simple, easy even. I'm looking for links. Many of you reading this already know about
SFScope, and a good percentage of you even read it regularly. But in order to grow, to show its true strength, people need to link to it. I know many of you have link pages on your own sites, or link-rolls on your blogs, so I'm asking for you to add SFScope into that list. The url is
http://www.sfscope.com , and your link will move the site that much farther toward showing its true strength.
As an incentive (though as my friend, you don't really need an incentive, right?), I've realized it's time for the site to have its own link page. So, send me a note at editor at sfscope dot com telling me what page or blog you think SFScope ought to link to: your home page, your favorite publisher, the artist you grew up with, whatever. Put "link" in the subject line, and your link will show up in the next few days, when I get the new page built.
Remember, linking to SFScope is not a requirement for appearing on SFScope's link page, but I'd sure appreciate the link. Thanks!
