Lion Brand Basic Socks I think I'm going to be a socknut now. Bring on more sock yarn!!
These were nice and easy and fun to knit. I wasn't crazy about the yarn; I found it to be rougher than the other yarns I'd been using lately (the Cleckheaton and even Wool-Ease). But I love the colours, they're so fun! And it's much, much softer now that they've been washed and dried. I still don't know if I'd order from KnitPicks again, though, because delivery was soooo slow and I hated not being able to track my package.
With flash, for a clearer view.
I stopped by Hancock's on my way home today for the first time since they reopened (and thus the first time since I've started knitting). Ohmigod. It's like Lion Brand HEAVEN. If you were content to knit with nothing other than Lion Brand for the rest of your life, Hancock's would be the place to go. Much, much larger selection of LB yarns than Michael's or JoAnne's (not sure about Hobby Lobby, but since the nearest one is in Slidell, that doesn't count anyway). The only thing was that they had all of these yarns in all of these colours (every colour of Wool-Ease you could possibly imagine!), but they only had a couple of skeins of each colour. But maybe that will improve as they continue to get back on their feet. (I have no intention to use only LB yarn, but I've definitely discovered a weak spot for Wool-Ease.)
Anyways. So while I was there, I decided to actually go ahead and get some of the Magic Stripes yarn that is called for in the pattern I used. I got the Denim Stripe colourway, because the mix of reds, blue, neutrals, and copper is just really pretty.
I also got a skein of Lion Cotton in the colourway Americana (red, white, and blue, of course) to make a baby hat. For whom, you ask? For my new baby cousin!!! He was born at 2am yesterday and apparently they've named him Connor (not sure if it's one "n" or two, but I'll stick with two for now). He's actually five weeks early, so I think the hat I'm making him will be too big to wear for a while, but that's OK. I picked the red, white, and blue because that's how his room is decorated -- red and blue with bears playing baseball (or something like that). My grandma went to go see him today (they live in Mississippi), so I'm sure she'll have a full report to share later tonight.
PS, my socks totally also count for Project Spectrum. =P
