I think we generally end up paying for all of mistakes in one form or another. Guess it depends on whether you see it as negative or positive outcome. Even mistakes have the ability to lead us to something greater if not a clearer understanding.
This subject is very touchy for me. I guess there is no easy way to answer this without going deep into my perspective. I still cannot understand why people would throw their lives away.
I guess I cannot say for sure if humans would always choose life. Scientifically yes, that is what I have been told.It depends on the circumstances. If someone is in pain and dying already probably less likely, but when someone is perfectly healthy and they are just being a martyr how do you , can you, just volunteer for something like that? Even then your instincts kick in and you try to save yourself from dying I would think. The flight or fight response.
Perhaps my outlook is jaded on the subject. I guess I see it from a different perspective. With my health I've become a fighter. Fighting to get healthy and stay healthy. Yet--if my family were ever threatened and it was me or them, and I could save them at the cost of my own life, I would do it in a heart beat.
