Happily digesting nostalgia

I hung out with Laura yesterday.

She is so amazing. Just to find out all the shit she's been through in the nine years that we've been apart from each other was both heartbreaking and impressive. She's such a strong person now and I'm so glad that she's not entirely fucked up by the events that have happened in her life.

Laura told me story after story after story and I just sat there listening like a child. She seems so much more older than I do and she's only a month younger. She has a baby now. His name is Zeke and he's adorable. Her husband is in California doing desert training because he's going to be going to Iraq in a month.

We reminisced about our childhood and how amazing it was. She reminded me of things I had completely forgotten about (including the fact that we had "dated" in seventh grade for like, a week!) and I told her of things that she had forgotten. We laughed a lot and talked about how awesome living on our base was.

It was awesome to hear things about myself that I had forgotten. She said that I've always been a happy, nice kid. It's just nice to hear that from someone who knew me back then. Sometimes I feel like I don't remember it at all. I'm glad I have someone now that confirm these memories.

She's going to be here until June 19th and then she'll be back in August to live here for a while. I can't wait. We were childhood friends and I lost contact with her for nine years. This time, it won't happen again.
