Instant Healthy(ish) Awesome No Skills Soup

Aug 14, 2011 20:31

You, yes, YOU TOO can make awesome healthy(ish) soup with nothing more than a big enough pot and a fire to put it over, without any real need for cooking skills. If you can burn water, you can make this!

Ingredients:

- 1 can of corn nuggets
- 1 can of sliced carrots
- 1 can of diced potatoes
- 1 can of green beans
- 1 can of chicken, in water
- 8 cups of water
- ~2 packets of french onion soup mix *
- ~4 chicken bullion cubes *
- (optional) minced garlic to taste **

To do:

1. Put everything in a pot - do not drain the cans first (yes, you want that delicious canned chicken water too). Put it over a burner. Put the burner to high***.
2. Wait until it just starts to bubble. Stir it. Put the burner to medium***.
3. Go walk your dog, take a shower, play some Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook, whatever takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
4. Return. Turn off the heat. Stir. Serve.

Optional edits:

* The packets of french onion soup mix typically state that you should use four cups of water to one packet. Most bullion cubes say one cup to one cube. You'll notice the math above does not compute, because I like my onion flavoring strong. If you do not, you may only want to use one packet, instead of two.

* Both bullion and soup mixes like this tend to come a little heavy on the sodium, so this actually doesn't need any flavoring beyond what goes in the pot. If this is too salty for you, you may want to put in less bullion along with less french onion soup mix.

** I put garlic in almost everything I eat because I'm nuts. I buy the huge gallonish sized jars of minced garlic... they last maybe a year. I don't measure. But if I had to measure, I'd say I probably put in two heaping tablespoons.... maybe three. Ish. (It was a large spoon.)

*** I'm talking about electric stove tops here. I have no idea what you'd want to do on a gas stove.
