Hey everyone, guess what? This is an update. Stick it in your ear.
I was talking to a friend over Spring Break and they asked me, "Do you read LiveJournal anymore, Adam?" I had to answer, quite honestly, might I add, "I only skim it." A few of you who I've randomly commented to know that quite well, or anyone who has skimmed in here from one place or another from getting a comment to me, the same.
Honestly, LiveJournal doesn't do for me what it used to. It just is a sap of my energy and time. Petty meaningless drama just goes around me and causes problems here and there, so what did I do? I eliminated it from my life. BAM! Kick it up a notch. Too many small things were happening, and I'd have to take care of them, and I couldn't separate myself from online time. I blame it on 2002 when I spent my whole summer inside talking on AIM/LJ/DJ and the likes and I never got out. Not anyone's fault but my own, and I became reliant on this. I since have seen who I am, where I am, and what I need...
I'm living a much happier life. I'll give you a rundown so you all know what you're missing, then tell you how to get ahold of me, if you actually care...
First of all, spring break was very good for me. Sarah and I got much needed us time. Yes, we spend a lot of time together, but sometimes you need to take that out of context from life and just have that person to see what you have and what you need to work with being. That's what she and I did, and wonderfully too, might I add. I love her as much as ever. 6 months as of March 9th. And by the way, any of you who might think that there's "another shoe that's going to drop" and this all just "end"? Fuck off and actually call me and spend time with me and see who I am, and quit living on the outside, assuming that I'm just running in circles.
Next, everything class wise is going wonderfully as well. I'm kicking ass in the classes that I love and reading so much good shit left and right. Don't believe me? Pick up some W.S. Merwin, Wallace Stevens, E.M. Forster, Langston Hughes, Hart Crane, or any of the other countless books I've been reading. Literary theories are now my bitch, and I'm really understanding where I'm sitting, and very damn fluent in conversation on imagery and thought processes of many of these writers. Yeah? Yeah. Not that most of you would care, most of y'all aren't english related majors. Career wise what does all of this mean for me? Well, I'm looking at a masters, possibly doing a Ph.D in American Lit, focusing on Modernist Poets for my thesis. Suck that cock.
Musically, everything is kicking ass there too. Haven't done much recently because I've been recharging and seeing what I can do, but that's in the solo outlook. If you haven't heard, start looking out for Right Turn Yield. Domain name is registered, I have a drummer, and right now Andrew and I are working on filling out the other guitar and bass duties in the lineup and writing songs. We have a few songs we've been working with, but this isn't "The Adam Cohen Band", this is Right Turn Yield. What does that mean? Until the band page is online, ask questions about the band will be handled through TryingSoHard.com and through AIM/e-mail, the band AIM and e-mail being RightTurnYield and rightturnyield@hotmail.com. We're keeping it fairly quiet, but you'll see stuff around about it.
I think that's about everything. My main suggestion if any of that seems new or different to you is to give me a call, drop me an e-mail (adamcohen@tryingsohard.com) or an AIM. My paid LJ expires in about a week or so from now, and I could care less. I'll keep updating
tryingsohard and moderating
ucf and maybe posting something in
stevensvoice every so often, but for the most part, my journalling is going offline in a nice leather-bound journal.
There's something soothing about writing for myself and not writing for an audience. I know everyone says "But on LiveJournal I'm writing for myself, not for my friends list." If you honestly believe that, then congratulations. LiveJournal and every other type of online journal or diary is a great way to get general stuff out to friends and the like, but it's not a way to live your life. Some people don't seem to understand this.
So if you have something that happens to you that you put in your LJ and you're expecting that I'll read it and know what's going on with you? Don't expect it.
This isn't like it's a one way street, either. I'll be calling you as well and IMing and everything. But that's basically what I'm trying to say: I'm not dead, I'm a human, not a fucking robot who comes here and tells everyone my life. That's nice, but it's not me. It's not the guy that I am.
Take care everyone, I wish you all the best...
