17 year-old Jerome Hunt is accused of rape and attempted rape against his former teammates on the Parker wrestling squad. Monday his juvenile trial resumed in Turner County after it was postponed by the recent blizzard.
Hunt, who won a state championship wrestling for Parker High School, is accused of inappropriately touching former teammates both in the team's training room and on the team bus. Several alleged victims, all of them younger and smaller than Hunt, testified he would inappropriately touch them on the buttocks over their clothes.
On cross examination, Hunt's attorney, Mike Butler pointed out to two of the accusers that some of the details of their testimony differed from what they told investigators.
The trial is expected to last two more days, and then it will be the judge's decision if Hunt is guilty or not guilty.
If Hunt is found guilty, he would be required to register as a sex-offender.
Before the hearing resumed, Hunt's lawyer asked that a mis-trial be declared because a relative of one of the young people involved received a letter accusing that person of not telling the truth. Butler said that amounted to tampering with a witness. The judge denied that request.
