Pride & Prejudice top 5 scenes

Feb 08, 2010 14:46

After a long while of not doing picspams, here's my first entry to this month's picspammy's challenge: top 5.
I would have done a top 5 Lord of the Rings scenes, but as I did a similar one last March (gosh, has it been so long?), I went with my second favourite film.

05. Bingley proposes

Mr Bingley: I know this is all very untoward, but I would like to request the privilege of speaking to Miss Bennet. Alone.

Ahh Mr Bingley, you make me so happy! I love the little scene with him and Darcy rehearsing, and the look on Bingley's and Jane's faces! So precious. One thing I miss from this adaptation is Elizabeth's and Bingley's friendship, but I like the little smile she gives him when she leaves the room.

04. Asking for consent

Elizabeth: We misjudged him, Papa. Me more than anyone. In every way. Not just in this matter. I've been nonsensical. But he's been a fool about Jane, about so many other things. But then, so have I. You see, he and I are... He and I are so similar. We're both so stubborn. Papa, I...

Mr Bennet: You really do love him, don't you?

Elizabeth: Very much.

Mr Bennet: I cannot believe that anyone can deserve you. But it seems I am overruled. So I heartily give my consent. I could not have parted with you, my Lizzie, to anyone less worthy.

Elizabeth: Thank you.

Mr Bennet: If any young men come for Mary or Kitty, for heaven's sake, send them in. I'm quite at my leisure.

This scene is the only one that makes me cry, it's just so beautiful. The happiness! And Donald Sutherland as Mr Bennet is just great. I also like that this is the last scene of the film in my version, because the Mrs Darcy scene is a bit ridiculous really xD.

03. Elizabeth visits Pemberley

Mrs Reynolds: This is he, Mr Darcy.

Mrs Gardiner: A handsome face. Lizzie, is it a true likeness?

Mrs Reynolds: Does the young lady know Mr Darcy?

Elizabeth: Only a little.

Mrs Reynolds: Do you not think him a handsome man, miss?

Elizabeth: Yes. Yes, I dare say he is.

aka when Elizabeth falls in love with Darcy. I love Keira's little face emotions as Elizabeth begins to discover Darcy's real character. And who wouldn't fall in love with a guy with a house like this? haha. Also love Matthew when he says "Yes I know" with a half smile when they meet outside, because he loves Elizabeth so much and knows she's fond of walking. Ahh Mr Darcy ♥

02. The Netherfield Ball

Elizabeth: When you met us, we'd just had the pleasure of forming a new acquaintance.

Mr Darcy: Mr Wickham's blessed with such happy manners, he's sure of making friends. Whether he's capable of retaining them is less so.

Elizabeth: He's been so unfortunate as to lose your friendship. That is irreversible?

Mr Darcy: It is. Why do you ask such a question?

Elizabeth: To make out your character.

Mr Darcy: What have you discovered?

Elizabeth: Very little. I hear such different accounts of you as puzzle me exceedingly.

Mr Darcy: I hope to afford you more clarity in the future.

Basically I love all this huge scene for the camera work, and the continuing shots through the house. And the dancing, and the lighting and the pretty costumes. And all the little things happening, especially Bingley reaching for Jane's ribbon.

01. The proposal

Mr Darcy: I love you. Most ardently. Please do me the honor of accepting my hand.

Elizabeth: Sir, I appreciate the struggle you have been through, and I am very sorry to have caused you pain. Believe me, it was unconsciously done.

Mr Darcy: Is this your reply?

Elizabeth: Yes, sir.

Mr Darcy: Are you... are you laughing at me?

Elizabeth: No.

Mr Darcy: Are you rejecting me?

Elizabeth: I'm sure that the feelings which, as you've told me have hindered your regard, will help you in overcoming it.

Mr Darcy: Might I ask why, with so little endeavor at civility, I am thus repulsed?

Elizabeth: And I might as well enquire why, with so evident a design of insulting me, you chose to tell me that you liked me against your better judgment.

If you take my copy of the book, it will open at this scene. It's just so full of angst and love and sadness! And that almost kiss! The language! All their facial expressions and the thunder at the appropiate time! Matthew Macfadyen does an amazing job in this scene. And he looks quite sexy too haha As much as I love Colin Firth, he will always be *my* Darcy.

Sorry for the lame colouring.
I don't mind if you take this and post it on Tumblr, but credit would be nice. But please don't hotlink!
