I've been everywhere man, I've been everywhere.
Well, not really. But it has a been a fairly eventful (and at times infuriating!) summer.
Actually my latest saga starts in mid-April. It had been discussed with my parents and I that the stairs that lead to my apartment needed to be rebuilt, and that I (and my boyfriend) could move in with them temporarily, rent free even, until they were fixed. The job was supposed to take my folks about a month and a half to do.
It ended up taking 4.
And they were not 4 easy months either. To start things off, the same day that I left my apartment, I was going on a planned weekend trip to Sacramento. So it was literally drop my stuff off at my parents, then hit the road for another 2 hours. After that, things went OK. My boyfriend had to leave on his own personal trip back to his home in Ohio though, so that already began the weirdness. The week prior I had my own place to live and a spouse, and the following week, I had neither.
But of course he came back, and at the beginning of May, we both went to Reno for Biggest Little FurCon, and to celebrate his birthday up there as well. And that was all well and good and fun, well except for me somehow someway losing my drivers license at the front desk of the hotel. How that happened, I'll never know. but that was an awesome, amazing weekend and all that jazz. Work of course was really ramping up, and I was starting to really go insane again. But what really started to get on my nerves was the fact that it was becoming evident that the stair rebuilding project my family took on was just way too much for them to handle. By the end of the month, it was pretty clear that no one had any idea when the job would be finished.
The June happened....ugh. My mom managed to fracture her hip, and my boyfriend managed to fracture his arm, which left me essentially taking care of both. My boyfriend fortunately didnt need as much care, but for several weeks my mom couldn't really be left alone, which meant that I had to stay home for several weekends in a row. I was hoping by the end of the month, everyone would be sufficiently healed enough to where my boyfriend and I could take a trip to Palm Springs over the 4th of July to see my grandma (among other things ... ). Of course what I didnt know was that my car was going to break just a week before. Fortunately, a friend came to my aid and got it working again. Then it broke down again on the way to Palm Springs. Again, with the help of an awesome AAA tow truck driver, we got it going, got down there, and had an amazing time. Then I got back, and the car broke down again! 3rd time's the charm I guess because its been fine ever since.
Oh, and there's been work. Wonderful, wonderful work. The pace gets more and more hectic every day, the pressure gets greater, the boss gets stupider, and the customers get more demanding. This past summer has been the busiest -- and most insane -- in years. When I got back from Palm Springs, there was one big job after another, and nothing was easy.
July passed -- we went to sacramento again, only for the day, to go to the state fair. Then July ended.
Now its August. And yes -- by miracle of miracles, I'm finally back in my normal place as of 2 weekends ago now. I'm a few hundred dollars richer, but my luck seems pretty much the same. Work has leveled out (ie slowed down), but I'm looking to leave.
I've been many places over the past few months, up, down, sideways, forwards, and backwards. And I'm still looking to move on to greener pastures.
