I was rereading old bookmarks, and I came across this, which is brilliant and wonderful and which I am copy/pasting here in case the original site ever goes down. Read it. Love it.

(The following rant, for lack of a better word, is written by the writer David Eggers... )

I can't decide if Eggers gets paid by the word, the sentence fragment, the run-on sentence, the instance of coy preciousness, or if there's some complicated formula that factors all of these into a big fat paycheque for being a big fat douchebag. The man serially commits crimes against language and good taste. If I was trapped in a publishing-company elevator with him, Ann Coulter, and a gun with a single bullet, I'd shoot Eggers in the knee and let Coulter devour him, The Descent-style.

Ok, fine. Read it. Hate it.

P.S. Where the hell have you been? I miss you.

I think I love you.

I may have told you that before.

I actually knew nothing about Eggers before this. But the comments about fashion reminded me of a certain Oscar Wilde quote:

"A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months."

I enjoyed that. I also enjoyed the allusion to The Descent, which, despite how much I enjoyed it, I also resented because it was like someone scribbled "symbolism" on the cover of an encyclopedia-sized book and repeatedly smacked me across the face with it.
You know, in a good way.
